I am mostly posting this review to document the quality of the PC port as I haven't played a lot of this game yet, but so far it's been really cool. If you think the idea of a game where you just explore is fun, you'll probably really enjoy the game. I don't think it's a game that should be played for the survivle or crafting mechanics. I've really been enjoying it.

As far as the crashing and performance issues go, It seems like the patch fixed most (if not all) of the crashing issues. The other major issues seems to be frame drops on Nvidia cards. On my GTX 1070 I was having these issues, but I was able to easily resolve them.

Fixing the frame drops on Nvidia cards:
  1. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed (you can check through geforce experiance or by using the tool on Nvidia's website
  2. In the game's graphics settings, disable vsync and set the "Max FPS" to "Max." I also suguest setting the game to Borderless mode.
  3. Close the game
  4. Open the Nvidia control panel and navigate to "Manage 3D settings" in the side panel
  5. Select the "Program Settings" tab in the window and then select No Man's Sky (You may have to use the "Add" button next to the drop down menu to find it
  6. Scroll to find the "Vertical Sync" setting. Use the dropdown menu to set it to "Adaptive".
  7. Make sure to press "Apply"

This 99% of the hitching and frame drop issue for myself and a friend of mine.

I've owned this game since before it was on steam. So, while it looks like I only have a couple hours of gameplay, I have closer to 150 or 200 hours of play time.

This game is fantastic. If the idea of flying your own space ship seams even a little interesting to you, buy this game. You will not be dissapointed. While the lack of depth is a fairly reasonable concern, the amount of immersion typically makes it a non-issue. While a lot of the game can being doing the same repeditive task over and over again, it feels like your really flying a space-ship. This effect is something that I've never experianced in other games. Both sound design and graphics are superb.

As far as gameplay goes, there are a four main career choices (though you can really do whatever you want if you don't care about money): exploration, bounty hunting, trading, and pirating.

Exploration is fairly repeditive, but for some reason I find it very enjoyable. I've spent a suprising amount of time exploring. The impeccable sound and graphics of the game go a long way towards making discovering new worlds exciting. It doesn't hurt that virtually the entire galaxy (of 100 billion stars) is unexplored. There's almost always some new beautiful thing to see, from nebuale to blackholes to planetary rings, and much more.

Bounty hunting is the other profession that I've spent a lot time in. Bounty hunting is combat focused and typically involves waiting in crime hotspots for wanted ships to appear. Combat is pretty fun, and probably the most complete (and deep) aspect of Elite. It's important to manage power, heat, sheilds, ammo, heat, and special utilities all while piloting your ship if you want to do well in combat. You also need to make sure your ship loadout is ideal. All of this allows for a high skill ceiling and a lot of depth.

I haven't spent much time trading, but I didn't find it to be very entertaining. So, I can't really say much about it. I also haven't spent any time pirating. Pirating is, however, unique in that it is a (mostly) PvP profesion.

Fantastically deep 4X game. I can't comment on how similar this is to GalCiv 2 since I haven't played it, though. I really like the non-combat victory options, they are very well fleshed out which makes them very satisfying. I've been playing with a friend too and that's been enjoyable as well.

There is pretty much nothing to do. The city is lifeless and bland. There are no people at all. The driving physics are mediocre.
