Funnily enough, I had an idea for a game that was with a girl who road a motorcyle. Drat and darn, I like Kathy better than the character I imagined. I actually have a question for the developers too - I get a Xena/Gabrielle vibe here for part of it and wondered if it's that sort of thing.

This is a good game. Better than most adventures that come out. I'm not sure who made it, but you deserve kudos for what you did. The puzzles, storyline etc come together beautifully. I didn't find myself backtracking or really confused at any point in time, and the puzzles themselves were organic to what was going on. The content was moving. I really appreciate this and am going to try more indie adventure games - they were my first love in gaming, and thank you for that.

I wish I could have liked FireWatch, I really do.

I loved Gone Home. I want to explain why in relation to Firewatch, really. The reason why I loved Gone Home is because it was like discovering someone discover themselves. Sure, the influence you had on the story was limited, but it wasn't really about your influence at all. It was about trying to figure out what happened, where everyone was, and you do that in the story. The point of the story was discovery. There's no changing the fact that no one's there and you aren't given opportunity to do anything other than explore or any reason to try to change anything. You can't say, hey I don't want her to run off, let me stop her. She's already gone. You just need to figure things out. And that's fine. You can't really influence things if people aren't there to influence them. I get that. And that's ok to me. The discovery part of Gone Home was what to me made it a good game. A purposeful game. You were experiencing it.

But FireWatch is different.

On the surface, if it were a novel, I'd be fine fine with it. I'd think it was deep, it would have some meaning to me. But you don't interact with novels, you are passive in the entire thing. You don't feel like you can direct the characters. You aren't put in a situation in a novel where you feel like you should be able to influence the outcome somehow, typically. Gone Home didn't give you a situation where you can influence it but it walked that balance, you discovering and finding out what happened, still participating but not being able to choose to change anything. But it was ok, given the parameters and situation you were in.

FireWatch, on the other hand was an excercise in frustration. Here I was, playing this character who has options. He's got an entire forest to explore. He and his radio girlfriend are being messed with, but he literally has a whole forest, a whole forest and items in his tower that he could be able to do something with to stop that. It was horrible. I was stuck playing this dumbass character, who just let other people marionette him. At one point I'm like, let me head this dude off, why am I letting this guy just direct me wherever he wants me to go, I'm going to go over here. NOTHING. I have no choice but to let this guy do his dumbass things. I appear to have a choice, but no, I really don't. They even stuck the fake ranger behind the outhouse. I'm like let me prop this up here in the tower because someone's watching me. But no, my character is too stupid to have that option, because it's not written.

Bottom line is - Gone Home successfully limited your options in a believable way and at the same time let you ramble around and experience things. This game limited your options in a totally bogus way, by making you unable to actually act, but letting you think you might be able to. The restriction is that character an absolute dumbass. I wanted to like this game so so much, but I just can't. It's just frustrating and stupid. And I'm sorry if you don't agree, but that's my opinion on it.

I actually won this game in a contest. While it did take me a bit to play it because of real life stuff, it is an awesome little game. I loved all the characters and the setting. It is very retro pc game - think King's Quest or original Gabriel Knight. This game is a gem and packed full of charm, and I'd recommened it to anyone who loves these types of adventures.

This is at true adventure game and a continuation of the Longest Journey and Dreamfall. Dreamfall Chapters again follows Zoe Castillo, a young woman who first appeared in Dreamfall being asked to find and save April Ryan, the main character from the first game, the Longest Journey. Dreamfall Chapter's furthers Zoe's particular part in the adventure in helping to determine the fate of the balance between the two worlds of magic and science, Stark and Arcadia. If you like mysteries, don't mind fantasy or sci-fi and like agnozing over decisions that may affect your own fate as well as the overall fate of the world, this game is for you.

To continue, I wholly recommend this to people who like TellTale style games, as this game uses the similar mechanic of "choose your own adventure." If you have not ever seen one of these type of tales, which started out in books, it's a format where your actions can lead to different paths or at least a different experience in the overall plot, can flesh out what and who characters are and give you at a deeper understanding of the environment, the story and it's meaning, and give you a better sense of actually participating in the adventure. You can actually feel and understand Zoe and Kian's decisions and agonize over them, and worry about what kind of effect this is going to have on the character and the worlds. Is it going to get them killed? Is this decision later on down the line going to make the end result of the story actually change?

The game development team is on the third book in several chapters, and the gameplay is over 10 hours already for $20.00. That's less than the price of two movie tickets in my state , and there will only be more to come. With that $20.00 you get to immerse yourself in another world, feel the environment and participate in it, make decisions that may or may not affect your life and well being, as well as the world around you. Some decisions are quite small and some very large. Some small decisions actually lead to larger consequences . You get to participate in an overall mystery and experience more than one world in the combination of fantasy, sci-fi, mystery and ordinary things that are part of life.

This game is not for everyone, but neither is any game that you can possibly buy out there. Some people don't like shooters, some don't like strategy, or side-scrollers, and some people don't like adventure games. Some people think adventure games should only come in one format and involve tons of mind-breaking puzzles. Some people don't like certain content. In the the end, to me It's just like some people preferring hockey over football or baseball. It's up to you whether you like this game or not. I can only say in the end though that I really enjoy it and it was worth every penny spent on it for me. These adventures are truly different and you can never quite be sure what is going on.

I hope that this review was helpful, and I hope that Red Thread Games can continue making adventures in the future that are like this.
