Early Access Review
Mother of all Sandbox games.

Imagine you're stuck in a zombie apocalypse and you can do whatever you want. That's basically what this game is all about.

If that sounds like you're kind of game, then I recommend it. Keep in mind, this game is still in development and the updates are rather slow.

I recommend this if you're a fan of Republican Roman history and CRPGs. I haven't played the previous Expeditions games, but I'm glad I started on this one. If you're in the same boat like me and don't know which game in the series to get first, Expeditions: Rome is a good choice.

I'll be honest, the "strategic" part of the game with the legions was a bit lackluster and simple. I don't like to say this, because it's a big part of the game, but it's also kind of a drag. I also didn't like how I had to personally pacify some regions (by sending only one of my companions and a handful of praetorians, instead of the whole A-team).

But the tactical turn-based part of the game is very good and I couldn't wait to get back into it. I enjoyed the story very much as well and I genuinely felt like my choices mattered. As far as I can tell, there is a big difference in the story and how characters (especially Romans) treat you if you're either a male or female character. (I've only played as a male so far and only played a little bit as a female character on the second playthrough).

Overall, this is a pretty good CRPG. Not groundbreaking and amazing, but definitely worth it on a sale.

I'm so glad this is finally back on Steam.

This is the best Anno in the series so far, made by the only competent Ubisoft studio.

I'm writing this to get the Steam Awards 2022 badge lol.

But I would still recommend this game wholeheartedly.
One of the best "story-generator"s I've ever played in my life.

Went into this game blind and was instantly hooked in the first few scenes.
If you love the dystopian science fiction and cyberpunk genres, then this is a game for you.

Early Access Review
For curious Paradox players, I would describe this as a mix of Victoria 2 and Stellaris with a lot of X-COM vibes.

If you're used to the old-school Paradox games like Hearts of Iron 3 and Victoria 2 where the learning curve is considerably high and the tutorials are not very helpful, then I think you would enjoy this game.
Might be a bit early to say, but I can see myself pouring hundreds of hours into this game. Especially when it's eventually released and out of Early Access.

If you decide to get this game, play it through in one sitting.
A great story game that left me thinking about it for a while after it was over.

Well-written, gripping and immersive story.

Short play time, but wonderful from start to finish. Game-play mainly consists of "walking around and clicking", but that isn't a bad thing at all.

This is my favourite Paradox game.

This game also has a very steep learning curve, dated UI, minor bugs and unexplainable features that even the devs don't know how it works. But if you're willing to look past that, this game is a good game.

I'm not going to sugar coat it, you need all DLCs (of which there are only two) to make this game playable. Even then, you should get one of two popular overhaul mods (HPM or HFM) to make it even more enjoyable. You also need an interest in world history between 1836 to 1936. It's only 100 years, which is short compared to other Paradox games, but trust me, a lot can happen within that time frame. Most importantly though, you need to have the will and patience to learn the mechanics and intricacy of the game. The tutorials are garbage, so a lot of players learn with trial and error or through YouTube tutorials.

So all in all, I recommend this game. But only with the above mentioned requirements. Otherwise, go play EU4 you casual.

Good game, didn't know much about Chinese history during the game's time period, but the story was enjoyable nonetheless.

Game play was similar to previous Total War games, but I recommend this game if you're a fan of Chinese history and the Total War series.
