A much-needed update to an aging game.

I had practically sworn off playing Rebirth when I saw how little the Afterbith dlc affected gameplay. Every run was a slog and I was bored of having to constantly search for the same few game-breaking items, just quitting if I missed a deal with a devil because the lack of damage was plain unenjoyable.

With Repentance, the game receives some much-needed balance. The dlc introduces wide-sweeping nerfs and buffs, a fact many negative reviews fail to mention. And sure, the game is much more challenging. But contrary to other reviews, this is more because you can’t just instantly clear every room with two good items and the fact that enemies’ attacks are actually fun and interesting. 100%ing the game in vanilla Rebirth was daunting and felt incredibly grindy. Now, even after starting from a fresh save I find myself coming back daily to knock out some objectives on the post-its.

I do agree with some posters that many enemies feel too tanky, particularly ones that spawn enemies. It is very unfun having to spend two full minutes in a room because you just lack the damage to clear the endless mobs. These posters forget, however, that the game has always been like that. Having just 100%ed flash Isaac, I can say that tanky spawners are a fundamental flaw since the game’s roots and something you have to accept.

As a whole, I am glad for the time it took Edmund and his team to release this dlc. The game feels fresh and exciting and I have fallen in love with it again. I recommend this dlc if you are looking for an excuse to dust off your old friend all these years later.

A very fun puzzle game with a Portal-y feel to it. I got it on sale for 3 dollars, and let me tell you I'd probably buy it for double, The story is short yet great, teaching morals along the way. Once you beat it, you don't just have to sit there, they give you a difficulty that is well over 5x harder than the original story mode, which I have yet to complete. Oh and awesome music all the time.
