Game is great... as long as you're underwater. The on-land gameplay is boring, frustrating, and poorly executed. I got stuck on mundane objects constantly, stuck inside others. The Snowfox also gets stuck, thankfully you can pack it up and redeploy elsewhere. Furthermore, Ice Worms are some of the glitchiest mobs in the game, whenever they break through the ice near me or my Snowfox, we would get moved around randomly, sometimes glitching into terrain, then taking unavoidable damage from them because they moved me into their attack. Maybe this is intended behaviour -- it should not be, if it is. I really, really, love this game. I almost like it as much as the first. However, these land-based issues as well as the generally less interesting underwater landscape left something to be desired. The improvements to the Prawn Suit were welcome, and contrary to many other reviews I have read, the Seatruck is actually a fantastic replacement/combination of the Seamoth and Cyclops, and many of its downsides can be worked around via upgrades or creative gameplay loops. Fantastic addition. The QOL upgrades in the UI and with ore gathering (different outcrops can give 1 special metal or titanium, so no more abundance of gold looking for silver from sandstone outcrops) are amazing as well, and much needed. Finally, the base-building is much better and more enjoyable, despite the fact that the abysmal collision detection when walking affects the tunnels formed when connecting things to the large rooms.

The bottom line is that this game is fantastic despite its flaws, and is a worthy successor to the first Subnautica. Unfortunately for the developers, they faced the same task as the creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender when they attempted to make a sequel to a creation that was deemed infallible by its fans.

It's a little short, but its very hectic playing loud, and it makes for a great time.

This will be the best $15 you ever spend. The synergies and item combinations combined with the new art style creates a familiar yet different experience. There is so much more depth than the original, which is unbelievable.

If I had to play one game for the entire year of 2015, this would be the game. Each run is different in so many ways, and creates such a unique experience every time you start another run.
