Early Access Review
Honestly one of the best action roguelikes I've ever played. If you're someone like me who loves limitless power fantasy, this is 100% your jam. Literally every upgrade you find and earn can be LIMITLESSLY INCREASED to LUDICROUS EFFECT. I have high hopes for the game's improvement, will recommend it to several friends and probably buy some copies for others, and hope it retains this lawless insanity throughout :3

Now that Sony has removed the PSN account requirement, I am happy to report my earnest findings on Helldivers 2.

It's a blast! Little buggy (HAH) in places, few crashes we've had, but the core gameplay is intense and great. Thank you Sony for reversing your decision, and I hope the Xbox community can join us soon.

I'm doing my part!

Please fix the servers AND add an offline only mode. I've played the utter crap out of Payday 2 and I want to play the utter crap out of Payday 3, but with the servers not working correctly I can't. :(

Bigger and Better than the First

I very much enjoy Killing Floor 2. The first game was one that I grew to love in my time playing it, but recognized the above average difficulty curve and notable reliance on having to level up your perks to be really competitive in the game, such as making weapon costs much more achievable. Below is a moderately exhaustive list of highlights that I think people would want to know about KF2.

  • Expansions on all the enemy types, leading to visual variety and additional diversity in enemy behavior
  • New bosses for boss waves, further increasing diversity in matches
  • New perks like the Gunslinger (pistoleer), Survivalist (jack-of-all-trades) and SWAT (SMGs) for more build options
  • Weapons can now be cross-compatible with perks within reason (Gunslingers' skills enhance the Field Medic's pistol)
  • KF2 utilizes Unreal Engine 3 to drive itself, which is an excellent step up from KF1's UE2.5
  • Several original maps were re-imagined for KF2, all of them looking incredible over their KF1 counterparts
  • Steam Workshop support for custom content, best used with custom maps
  • KF1 DLC weapons return as base game content for free
  • New paid DLC weapons can be purchased, but free (HRG prefixed) weapons are added too
  • All paid DLC weapons can be used by anyone so long as one player in the match owns them
  • Players can also experiment with the paid DLC weapons in solo via cheats (refer to Steam guides or KF2 Wiki)
  • DLC weapons can now be purchased with a yearly pass, much cheaper than before (currently 22 guns for 50$)

The game also received Epic Games Store crossplay support in an update around the same time as the game was available on Epic's platform, but I would generally advise people purchase the Steam version for the Workshop support. EGS players will have to manually download and install custom maps, which is absolutely doable but a modest inconvenience in comparison.

You can currently get it (as of August 17th 2022) for 2.60$ (please check gg.deals[gg.deals] for best price) and it has been given away on Epic at least once.

2D Smash with MUGEN but Furry

Up front, I want to be clear that I'm not big on fighting games. The only ones I have any reasonable length of time playing are MUGEN, Smash 4 and Rivals of Aether. My perspective is mostly limited to these games as a result.

That said, Rivals of Aether is exceptionally enjoyable to me. I have regularly enjoyed the gameplay and skill ceilings of Smash 4, and marveled at the customization and variation that MUGEN (or at least pre-built MUGEN clients) offered. To have a Smash-like fighter on PC with custom character support via the Steam Workshop for utterly painless installation process is an utter joy.

  • 18 base characters to play as, each with their own traits, strengths and weaknesses
  • Exhaustive tutorial system that not only covers the basic movement of the game, but goes into each character and exactly how their mechanics work
  • Online combat with that fancy rollback netcode thing people love so much :) NOTE: I am unclear if Workshop characters support rollback, be advised.
  • Massive catalog of Workshop supporting a modest variety of options (characters, maps and buddies primarily), from the 1:1 ports from Smash to the joke characters from MUGEN or exclusive to this game
  • Online combat support for Workshop characters, you both need to have the character installed however, so no downloading the character on the fly. Thanks to them being 2D though, my 369 subscribed items only take up 2.5 gigs on my drive!
  • Potential negative: The game lacks PlayStation or Nintendo button prompts, and I've not found any mods or means of injecting them yet. This is a negative for me personally, I just felt like it was worth mentioning.

I do not believe the game has any crossplay with other platforms, and as far as I know it's only available to play through Steam.

You can currently get it (as of August 17th 2022) for 29.99$. Please check gg.deals[gg.deals] for the best price when you're reading this, it's historical low was 3.74$!

A Massive New IP with Certified Best Horse in Gaming

My appreciation for FromSoft has only gotten stronger as time goes on. From my early days having Dark Souls 1 be the reason I invested in a controller for my computer, back when it was powered by the shoddy Games for Windows – Live, all the way to here and now with their latest on-PC title (please consider porting Bloodborne), Elden Ring.

Keeping in mind that I never had the pleasure of playing Bloodborne, and completely passed on Sekiro purely for it not striking my personal fancy, this is currently my favorite FromSoft title to date.

What on Earth could I say about it? I'll try to target this list for newcomers to FromSoft games, as people in the know of their work seem to generally understand what they're getting into already.

  • A massive open world covered with dangerous enemies, powerful magic, and all manner of loot from the mundane to spectacularly unique
  • (One of?) The first FromSoft games to both implement straight-forward jumping mechanics and design the world around using them in exciting and unprecedented ways
  • Contains, in my honest and humble opinion, the best mount in all of gaming. A ghostly horse that not only is easily summoned and dismissed, sidestepping the pitfalls of the horse dying or getting spooked, but the horse possesses your double jump, not you. He is integral and vital to fully exploring the world set out before you, and him having a double jump ensures he is regularly called upon for both horizontal and vertical traversal
  • The trademark message-leaving, player-summoning, invader-invading gameplay that Dark Souls popularized
  • A both expansion in concept and simplification in scope to the magic and weapon skill systems of prior FromSoft games, offering exceptional build diversity
  • A setting and period foundationally built by accomplished writer George R. R. Martin, built on top of with the beloved and beautifully tragic storytelling of FromSoft's writers and developers
  • Potential negative: Elden Ring is FromSoft's first foray into DirectX 12, and it seems that they may have made some mistakes in the process. Performance for many people is stuttery and jumpy, some of which can be mitigated by using pipeline optimizers and some further is mitigated by disabling the game's anti-cheat.
  • Potential negative: The game uses Easy Anti-Cheat for protecting online play, which is both exceedingly argumentative of game modifications and not impossible to bypass in the first place. Some people I know have achieved notable improved performance my disabling the game's anti-cheat and playing it offline as a result.

Elden Ring is exclusively on Steam's platform and lacks any crossplay with console copies.

You can currently get it (as of August 17th 2022) for 50.99$. Please check gg.deals[gg.deals] for the best price as you're reading this, historical low as of writing puts it at 40.79$.

My Friend Started the Hunt and Locked Me Inside Again

This is not one of the games I usually would play. I prefer my horror games where I can combat the horror directly, rather than being nearly defenseless to it and my only task being to identify what it truly is. FEAR and BioShock come to my mind when I think of horror games that I enjoy.

Despite this, I have enjoyed my time playing with my friends. I have become the victim of many a Hunt due to my friends playing tricks on eachother, but my time spent therein has been enjoyable.

  • 24 different ghost types, each with their own identifying evidence they leave behind and their own behavior rules
  • 10 maps, most of them being smaller with a few medium maps and one large map
  • Per-mission bonus objectives to increase XP and money for successfully identifying the ghost
  • VR support for feeling that much closer to the ghost hunting and that much more terrified

The game is exclusively hosted on Steam for PC gamers, and as of writing has no console versions.

You can currently get it (as of August 17th 2022) for 13.99$. Please check gg.deals[gg.deals] for the best price as you're reading this, historical low as of writing has been 11.19$.

Would You Like to Sign My Petition?

Postal 2. An incredible sequel to an inflammatory series. The unmistakable image of an AK47 rifle. A game nearing it's 20th anniversary of existing, given a shiny coat of paint and Workshop support on Steam.

I vaguely recall playing Postal 2 far into the past, and only recently purchased it for Steam, but found it exceedingly enjoyable despite its age. A game that can be as crazy as you want it to me, and with mods that can add all sorts of new adventures and combat scenarios for the Postal Dude to experience.

  • Live out a pacifist and non-combative day in the humble shoes of a disgruntled man, or casually violate the Geneva Convention with chemical armaments
  • Explore an interconnected non-linear world that generally opens up as you progress through the week
  • Compliment, insult, irritate or immolate NPCs to your heart's content, just remember what country you're in!
  • The DLC adds two more days to your runtime plus new weapons, mechanics, levels and more!

While the game is sold on both GOG and Steam, both versions lack DRM and as such I would advise purchasing the Steam version for Workshop support.

You can currently get it (as of August 17th 2022) for 0.99$. Please check gg.deals[gg.deals] for best price at the time of reading, and it has been given away on some platforms at least once before.

Game ♥♥♥♥♥♥' rules

EDIT 11/24/2021: The latest major update was a little disappointing, but I really love how mellow and entertaining the game still is. I'm hoping for more and bigger from the dev team as time goes on. :)
