I can't speak to the original game as I never played it.

So this entire review will come from the perspective of a new player who didn't pay 60 dollars for a game.

It's honestly pretty fantastic a game, Grant Kirkhope doing soundtrack work is always a marvel after all. Salvatore's writing is where one might expect, and the gameplay itself (I've only really gone into the spells section thus far) is fluid and there's something immensely satisfying about dropping a meteor onto the unsuspecting heads of your opponents. That said, prefer the lightning storm for mana efficiency.

Game obviously has some bugs, but I've run through the main story line, most of the factions that I've found thus far AND done the DLC that I'm aware of.

More than worth the buy, but I can understand why people who bought the original could be disappointed.

This is fairly mixed at the moment, the underlying game is incredible. Diablo satisfying combat, Warhammer level political lore and arguments (leaving the endgame alone for the moment) and CryEngine delivered graphics? The lighting, atmosphere, soundtrack all shine.

The server connectivity is getting better and they've outlined a plan to improve going forward so I DO recommend this. But if you just want to play with others maybe wait a couple of weeks.

Back to endgame for now, and I'm only level 41 out of I think the max is 90?

This is an early review, I will update as I progress further in.

Game initially launched on what I consider my secondary monitor (as it has much lower specs than my new one), this was a simple remedy and I set the game to windowed, dragged it over to the good one and went back to fullscreen. It didn't detect the max refresh rate or resolution, so I relaunched the game and all was well. I did have to set it up to the maximum resolution though.

On to the game itself. This appears to be a co-op bullet hell that you can customize the experience of. The graphics are crisp, the music is catchy, and it looks to support both K&M and Xbox style controllers (based on the graphics shown, though I admit I don't have a Dualshock 4 to test with).

On my system, (2600K @ 4.3Ghz, 16GB DDR3 1600 CL9, and a GTX 980) it runs beautifully at 2560x1440, I can't detect any framerate drops, but I'm also using a G-Sync monitor.

Character selection is small, but the items within them are significant, I look forward to pressing on and figuring out what my favorite options are.

Back to the Galaxy I go now!

So the reason my play time on Steam here is what it is, is that I'd already bought this game once as a physical Japanese copy. I played through almost all of it without understanding a lick of text and it was STILL a fantastic game. The Ys series continues to shine to anyone who appreciates good music. (This particular entry falls more in line with the action platformer with a bit of RPG genre field)
