Probably one of the most promising "Survivor"-likes out there.

Rock solid foundation for something really special. I hope they add a real story that takes time and creativity to progress.
So far, the characters are written well, some a a bit cringe with the "emote speak" but how else can you almost instantly characterize something that only communicates in a few words in a text bubble?

A lot of stuff is voiced, and I hope they add more lines, some of the VAs are acting their butts off and its pretty great.
Need some real scenery chewing lads to really get some exquisite voice acting in here. So far I love it, glad a smaller dev team is going the extra mile where many do not.

Cannot wait to see where this goes!

While as of now it's pretty simple, extremely grindy (until theres nothing left to grind at all), and is not balanced terribly well, and has some of the weirdest music selections I've seen...

I still managed to have a blast for nearly 10 hours with this game.
And I keep wanting to play more.

Some of the items need a total overhaul, some of the guns are complete garbage, while others are so ridiculous I don't know what they were smoking when they decided to make them.
But overall, you can make some pretty bonkers combos.

I'm about to start playing it some more, and I can't stop, someone please send help.

So, where to begin.
This game has promise, a LOT of promise, however I don't think it's quite ready.
Visually it is great, love the aesthetic.
Sound design is also very good.
I had a lot of fun exploring the first level and the world is unique.

But.
The gameplay is... really not good.
It is just not fun to play.
I got to the first boss and beat it and that's when I decided to refund it, because if the first boss is anything to go by; the future ones will be even worse when it comes to the issue this game has.
Now I am used to souls games. I've played em all, love em all.
This does not play like a good souls like.
It plays like an action arcade game trying to eat your quarters.

While it may seem cool to give your boss a cool intro cut-scene.
Don't have it play every time, I only saw it 4 times but that is 3 times too many.
Have it play once ever, and that's it. Or not at all, have him do the intro as part of you walking into the room live.
Way cooler, way more fluid way to enter a fight.

The hit tracking is worse than DS2s online.
The gameplay devolved into spamming dodge and parry, and once I figured out I could just max both the long dodge invulnerably frames and long time to parry, I could not get hit. At all. I was just spamming those buttons and whittling the bosses HP down.
Not fun, but lo and behold that is the optimal strat it seems.
Sometimes he would do a full 180 and hit me with a stab that absolutely did not make even close contact.
I checked my recording and his sword was a full arms length away from me.
That is just frustrating.

Other thing, please for the love of all.
Stop with the cinematic cutaways.
It's cool, the first time.
But it's just too much.
An enemy having a long cutscene attack or loooonng uninterruptible attack sequences that go on for long enough for them to start entering their health regen threshold. Maybe don't do that. Looks cool in a trailer, not cool to play.

All of these are just minor annoyances on their own, but added up it becomes an actual problem.

If there is a Thymesia 2, or another game by these guys in the same vein in the future I would love to see it.
But unfortunately, this game lacks a lot of polish, has a lot of rookie game design issues, it is trying too hard to be cool and flounders in doing so.

Cyberpunk 2.0 is practically a brand new game. I already thought this was a must play rpg, now, even more so.
Absolutely give this a shot.

While I am very much enjoying getting my ass handed to me in this absolutely amazing experience, having read a lot of the other reviews, I can definitely understand peoples frustrations.

And while yeah, some of the fights I've done so far have gotten a bit frustrating, it was more of a: "Why am I failing? What am I doing wrong here?" frustration.
And that's the mindset you need.
This isn't an ezpz just shoot and win game. It really is a journey. Your journey of growth and improvement.
Yeah, a lot of the people are all "JuSt GeT GuD! KEKW KEKW KEKW LMAO LMAO"... and yeah, you do need to get good.
But not in the meme way. You need to think, watch, learn, try, keep trying, try new things. Step out of the comfy mech into something different to try out new ideas and methods for taking on your foes.

Could all this be solved with a difficulty slider? Yeah... and I don't think the game would be terribly hurt by it having one.
I am very much for making games accessible for everyone.
But.
It would, at least in my opinion, hurt the journey. You would not grow as much.
This really is a game anyone can conquer, given the motivation and time needed for you to reach your peak capability.
The satisfaction of overcoming something that was previously borderline impossible to you is a huge victory rush unlike any other.

Also, if you were to play it on an easier mode, if you stepped into the PvP... you would have an even worse time.

I really have been enjoying my time with this game, and it will be one of my favorites from this year which has been absolutely jam packed with utter bangers.

Awesome game. Taken the best lessons learned from other FromSoft games and combined into an absolute work of art.

Imagine if there was a Diablo game that came out in 2023, but it was actually good.

That's Halls of Torment.
