Difficulty curve is a little lumpy but besides that it's a very cool and challenging game, with funny art and great music.

Fantastic game, very fun and ironically unique despite being a snake game.

I normally don't leave Steam reviews, but I'm afraid this game will be glossed over, and that would be a tragedy considering how much love clearly went into this game. Pick it up and I promise you won't be disappointed.

This game is a gem. There is a long list of games this game took inspiration from that you can find on twitter or reddit or other people's reviews. Instead of listing them all here, I'll just post a couple of them from which the inspirations most resonated with me.

Early game playing stealthy because you have not developed your powers yet, and then later being able to ransack through enemies when replaying stages after you've skilled up your magic feels a lot like Dishonored. On new game plus, some of the early levels had me flying over everything without touching the ground while raining down fire, smoke, vines and ice onto enemies like some sort of insane bombing run. It was incredibly fun.

Planning an escape route to evacuate villagers that are mostly helpless (although they have crazy hops) felt a lot like Abe's Odyssey. Well crafted puzzles that slow down the pace of the game in an engaging way, making you think twice about taking routes with enemies you could circumnavigate easily if you were alone.

There are a couple of "trinkets" or "modifiers" (called meteor shards) that break the game. If you find them, I suggest not using them on the first pass through of a level. They should really be balanced. If you're reading this devs, the one that lets you stun enemies by jumping on a hard surface should really only work if you fall from a height higher than a standing jump. Being able to just jump in an enemies face until they fall asleep trivializes a lot of the harder levels.

For the most part though, the customization with the meteor shards is fun and lets you tackle levels in completely different ways depending on your loadout. I wish you could change your meteor shards upon first seeing the level conditions instead of making you wait until you find a checkpoint. You could say this is intentional, but if the user can just quit to level select after seeing the conditions and then change their shards and restart the level, you're not preventing them from pre-selecting shards for a level and they're also forced to take extra unnecessary time wasting steps.

A little buggy, but nothing game breaking.

Overall, solid 9 / 10 from me. Beat the game and new game plus in 2 days over about 15 hours (I really really got drawn into it). 100% villager rescue on first run, but didn't bother to fully 100% the game on new game plus because it didn't remember my previous clear conditions from the first run. While I understand this is done by design to award the players more soul points, I felt like my progress was erased when I clicked new game plus.

Heavily recommended to all, great job devs!

Edit: How could I forget the Avatar the Last Airbender vibes, and definitely some Korra for the ending. Absolutely loved the sense of humor of the game and all the visual and aesthetic choices made. Should have had a paragraph about how beautiful it is, but it's late now :)

Don't let the primitive sprites and rigid animation fool you: If you like clever writing, story that reflects gameplay mechanics (and vice versa), and tons of charm, this game is for you!
