Quake 2 simply rocks. The base game's campaign is excellent with challenging gunplay, enemies, and exquisite level design. Similar to its predecessor in many ways, it also sports it own unique look and feel that ultimately decided the direction that Quake would take moving forward. I recommend you grab the Yamagi source port for a classic experience, or go with KMQuake2 for something more refined and modern. The expansions are much harder than the base game. I personally preferred The Reckoning, though the designers result to throwing large numbers of beefier, bullet sponge-type enemies at you in the later levels, often in long corridors and small spaces which makes things artificially difficult. Ground Zero is sprawling with more complex albeit interesting level design, except that this mission pack seems built on exploiting the players positioning and navigation - tough enemies are hidden behind every nook and cranny and the later levels feature huge numbers of tough enemies punctuated with wall-mounted turrets that deal insane amounts of damage. It was difficult to prioritize enemy targets in combat encounters and there seems to be an over reliance on use of the Railgun as many combat arenas are wide open spaces with little cover. This was a real quicksave-happy slog to get through. The mission packs are good in that they serve up more Quake 2, though they have a slightly different flavor than the base game, perhaps too much so for most players.

This is the Dragon Quest game you should be playing right now. A perfect place to jump in if you've never indulged before.

This is a third-person cyberpunk mecha action shooter. A love letter to video games, drenched in early/mid 90's anime, dystopian sci-fi, and Hong Kong cinema. Tight controls and exhaustive, yet refined shooting gameplay that will test your skills as a gamer. It's a straight-forward affair of action punctuated by intense boss battles that will leave you hungry for more. Seriously. Slave Zero was birthed from PC gaming's golden age when development was largely driven by passion instead of dollar signs. Infrogrames NA was a small, underpaid, and overworked team of veteran developers that clearly had a love for this type of schlocky science fiction. If you are willing to do a little bit of Googling to get the game up and runnning on a modern OS (there are many guides and resources to help you do this!), Slave Zero is an absolute treat of late 90's game design. Treat yourself!

Side note: I recommend skipping the widescreen patches and opting instead to play the game in its native 4:3 aspect ratio at an internal (default) resolution of 640x480 and let nGlide render it at 1080. The widescreen patches, though handy and well-crafted don't use the game's Steam-provided exe, thus you cannot track your game time but also there is something oddly satisfying experiencing the software rendered closer to its native state as the creator's intended.

I first played Sven in early 2001. It's humbling to finally have what is arguably the greatest mod of all time available through Steam.

I put 150 hours into this game according to Xfire way back in 2004. It is total cheeseball fantasy at its finest. Shameless Tolkien worship, excessive boob armor, and more fairy fanart than you can find on all of Tumblr combined. It's not a deep game, the RPG systems are unbalanced and half-baked, the RTS systems are shallow and clunky, and the game as a whole, despite its grand production values and sensational soundtrack, is laden with bugs and full of awful mistranslations and hilariously bad voice acting. But it is insanely fun because of the sincerity with which it was made. This is a game made by fans of games, RPGs, and fantasy - a loveletter. I would compare it to Blood, in terms of the joy the developers put into making that game with their affinity for horror films and black comedy. If you dig Warcraft 2 and the Dungeon Siege games then you will probably dig Spellforce as well. Also the sequel is pretty solid, too.

Excellent musou experience. Buttloads of Dragon Quest flair. Comedic, fun story and dialogue. Lots of options for a console port. Looks and runs great on Windows 10 pro, GTX 960, at 1080/60 on an ASUS 144hz monitor. The light RPG mechanics are a real treat, especially if you are a fan of the Dragon Quest series of classic JRPGs. Overall just a real treat of a game if you like this sort of thing. I can definitely see it becoming samey after a while so if you are not a fan of musou-style games or Dragon Quest then your mileage may vary.

Very hopeful that the sequel makes its way to Steam in the future.

This is a fun, if overly-brown shooter that is held back by a weird stew of high production value, generic game design, and bland game world. It is mostly a product of John Carmack's insistence on filling out the engine and was originally intented to release between 2008 and 2009 where it would have sat nicely alongside other apocalyptic RPG shooters of the phase. It is classic id design though with some stale ideas that plant the experience in a parallel existence where players could do a lot better, but also a lot worse. Fun to pick up on sale.

The grand victor in the clash of the last great arena shooters. A step above its Quake 3 competition, UT delivers some of the most explosive and violently intense combat ever to grace the golden age of PC gaming. Multiple insanely fun game modes, unlockable character skins, unparalleled multiplayer level design, and a solid engine that still looks good in all its 90s glory. In its time, it was truly unreal. And if you play this today, you still might pinch yourself a few times.

A suprisingly balanced, punchy team shooter in the vein of old school Team Fortress with a dash of Quake Wars. Teamwork is heavily rewarded and crucial to completing objectives. Loudouts are class-like but remain non-specific to keep gameplay open and strategic. Fast paced, arena style combat with an oddly included ADS system that is less useful than most modern shooter players would like to believe. Dirty Bomb remains above water in the sea of team-based shooters. Grab some friends and jump in TS for a great teamplay experience.

Quake set in the Blade Runner universe. A delightfully simple old school romp through the cyberpunk consumerist future with enough modern goodies stashed about to make the shooter in all of us jump for joy. And also, neon everything.
