This game is often seen labeled as a souls-like title. The truth? Well, it is in many aspects. During your first playthrough (assuming you fight the game without watching a youtube vids or guides to spoil the fun), the fights are difficult, but they are fair. If you get greedy- you WILL be punished. On death, you must make your way back to your body (which you must fight), in order to get your items back.

Combat is intricate. Like any metroid-vania, you must explore and do certain things in order to acquire new abilities. The abilities will allow you to reach new locations and behave as a new utility and can be used to diversify ways to fight. The character can be customized to fit anyone's play style. There are items called "charms" that can be collected from shops, combat, exploration, and events. These are used to enhance features of the character, change the way abilities function, or just add something new entirely. Offensive, Defensive, Tactical, you name it- the charm possibilities are enormous. Bosses have move sets that you will have to memorize and adjust in order to progress. TL;DR- Prepare to die... its going to happen MANY times.

Another feature that makes this game a souls-like is the lore. The game takes place in a desloate-style atmosphere. You will meet NPC's that have ... 'oddities' to their personality, and others that are normal. The storyline itself is deep- super deep. There are alternate endings (4 total to date). There are loads of vague references that force you to seriously think on what has taken place. There are subtle hints at what has happened before your arrival, but it is going to take quite some effort to have the full story laid out. (Even after you've seen all of the scenes, dialogue, explored every area... you will have many uncertainties). After you've fully completed the game (it does go beyond 100%), researching online or youtube lore videos provide a lot of insight to tie up most of the loose ends.

I don't believe I've ever written a review for a video game before. This goes without saying that the game itself is a masterpiece. I recommend this game to ANYONE that enjoys a challenge. Side note: the Path of Pain (a very difficult platforming area) is a path of pain. Its one of the most enjoyable, controller-smashing moments I've experienced in a long time.

11/10 - would pogo again

I first bought this on my phone. I proceeded to buy on my next two phones as well... Now I own it on steam. The game is insanely addictive with the majority of content being created by users. Anyone can make levels that will automatically show in the monstrously large list of levels. Creations are voted on by fellow players, and if they are good enough, featured or titled with an "epic" symbol to show they are must-plays.

Pros:
It never gets old- New levels are being made non-stop by a community that is insanely talented.
Good beats
Simple controls (Rob's Pro Tip: "Jump")
As easy or challenging as you want to play

Cons:
Making levels is not easy (especially if you're making something good)
Attempt counter that shows every time you restart (lol this is depressing when you've gotten past a couple hundred attempts on the same stage)

Overall... the game is fun, fair, challenging, easy, never-ending, and insanely addictive for just a few $.

11/10 - would cry at 98% again

Pros:
- graphics
- story
- action (1st boss fight w/in 10 minutes or less of playing)
- swords

Cons
- um... if i had to name one... the camera pisses me off more than anything. Its far too close and annoying as hell to turn in the correct direction mid fight... ESPECIALLY when there are multiple enemies and they bolt across sides of the map (machines mostly)
- this is an issue using an xbox 360 controller, not sure if mouse_keyboard users have same issue

Recommend?

- if you like hack and slash ~ yes
- if you like MC that look like robot chicks ~ yes
- if you feel like swords should be used via foot more often ~ yes
