There is so much I like about this game, and it's potential is evident.
However...
That potential will probably never be realised. So many aspects are badly implemented or just plain buggy.
The recent merger of the servers due to sharp drop in the player base seems to have exasperated many of
the problems. I've held off buying the DLC, because it doesn't feel like anyone at AGS really cares about this
game anymore. They are probably putting all their resources into the LotR game that is supposedly coming.
I'll carry on playing for a while longer I guess, but I can't in all honesty recommend this game to anyone atm.

This could have been a pleasant and entertaining little app, but the poor lighting and contrast of the images and background make it an exercise in frustration. You are literally reduced to dropping pieces into an featureless void in the hope it will match up. If it wasn't for the auto fit of the pieces, most of the puzzles would be impossible to complete. Only recommended to people who enjoy doing jigsaws at night with the lights off.

Very enjoyable indeed. I've been a long time fan of the work of H P Lovecraft, and this was a truly unique and rewarding alternative presentation. I really hope there will be more to follow. The addition of the ebooks, audio books and wallpaper was a nice touch and well worth the few quid to hopefully sponsor more!

Was just trolling true the deals for something to pass the time and picked this up for a fiver. Think 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein' crossed with 'Tomb Raider' and you'll have a pretty good idea what to expect.

It easy to pick up, puzzles and combat aren't too much of a challenge, and despite the cut scenes it progresses at a easy pace. The graphics are a bit dated, but still look pretty good. Characterisation and voice acting is passable.

All in all, I find it to be a fun if not too demanding adventure romp.

Heard a lot of negativity about this game in it's early days, so avoided it. This Christmas (2019) saw it drastically discounted on steam and was looking for something different so bought it. I don't know what it was like before now, but at the moment I find it a hugely absorbing and immersive game. No preset agendas, no quest funneling, just you and a challenging vast continent to explore and survive in. The mechanics are better that some recent games, although the AI can be a bit erratic at times.

The graphics on the unreal engine look gorgeous and the different world zones are very atmospheric and immersive, as is the excellent ambient sound and music. The combat is fun, fairly well implemented and animated. The survival aspect of the game is ok, if a bit convoluted at times, and the crafting works well and is fun to progress. Be prepared however, to stretch your suspension of disbelief at some of the more ludicrous logical absurdities - the usual laws of physics do not always apply in the exile zone...

If you want something that is a bit more self driven where you can just do whatever takes your fancy from creating (the building and decorating options are awesome alone!) to just raiding the neighbours, I would definitely recommend it.

Is that it?
This has the potential to be so much more, and I really hope ACKE HALLGREN resumes this adventure.
It could certainly rival The Room series I think - would be a shame if it ends with this tasty morsel.

Great game, thoroughly immersive, with a play style to suit pretty much everyone.

I played this game when it first came out and loved it, so seeing it here again I jumped at the chance to play it again. Unfortunately it seems to have serious issues with 64 bit OS's. I got it to run, but no matter how many settings and fixes I tried, It would not budge above 640x480 res. Frustration and dissapointment.

Great game, but serious compatability issues.

Initially I loved this game. It is possibly the most beautifully landscaped game I have ever played. I was mesmerised as I wandered aimlessly through the trees and rocks, and rocks and trees, and... therein was the beginning of my discontent. It is of course occasionally punctuated by the odd tram or house, but for me there is too much trudging up and down what feel like endless winding trails to the next set piece. Guys, would it have been so bad to have a walk toggle setting?

"Our focus is on atmosphere, mood, and the essential humanity of our characters." In many ways you succeeded, as many reviews here testify, but in doing so you have perhaps made the game a little too obscure and beyond the reach of a lot of gamers. Also some missleading and inconsistent leaders. For instance, when you first start out, there are some fairly obvious indications towards clues which lead you to suppose this is a common precident, and yet later in the game with some of the more important clues, they are not evident at all so you could easy miss them. Beware also of back tracking to look for possible missing clues, as picking up objects at previous save points seems to erase your progress. The developers state that it is an "experience, in non-linear fashion" and for the most part this is true, but you will encounter the invisible wall syndrome quite frequently. Jumping off bridges or swimming in the lake is definately a no-no, no matter how hard you try.

A labour of love without doubt, and worthy of praise, but if you lack patience, stamina and a considerable attention span, you could find yourself developing a thousand yard stare.

Enchanting as it is absorbing. A very atmospheric and entertaining puzzle game. Takes me back to the days of games like 7th guest. It great to see the art isn't quite dead yet. Only 4 bucks - easily worth 4x that!
