A solid, polished and addictive mod for one of the greatest games of all time, that's also F2P. What's more could you want?!?

- The level design is much harder than Portal 2, but still solvable if you're willing to twist your mind a bit. It took me exactly 10 hours to complete.
- The story starts off pretty mysterious, but unfortunately suffers a slight dip in the latter parts. However, the final boss fight, as well as ending sequence are superb and have a good chance to 'touch teh feels'. What's more, it manages to fit fairly well into the existing canon, although this mod actually isn't canon.
- The graphical quality is absolutely superb. Great care is taken to each and every detail. There are also a smattering of jokes hidden here and there in the environment.
- The music is all original, and while differing slightly in tone from the music from Portal 2, is still in very much the same vein.
- I am told there are several easter eggs, as well as an entirely new character. So far I've only found one minor one, and I was looking for them the whole time. They must be very well hidden.

Overall this mod is definitely a 9/10. The only cons could be a potential brain-haemorrhage from trying to solve a few of the puzzles, as well as some slightly stilted voice acting from the lead character.

So download it and play it! NOW!

This game is one of the most atmospheric games I have played. It's a great mix of Victorian Gothic, Steampunk and Lovecraftian spooks.
It is also really hard until you get the hang of it. But hey, even dying/going insane/dying in a different way/??? is fun, it's part of the experience and adds to the whole aesthetic.
Now, this game is slow, but that is not a bad thing. There are thousands of words of lovely, crafted text, that tell the story in a unique, entertaining, and occasionally very funny way. Exploration really is fruitful, it may not seem so at first glance, but the fact that it earns you cash really gives a legitimate incentive to act how a sea captain actually should act.
The combat is ok, there is definitely a strategy to it, and relies on things such as visibility, line of sight, etc.

Overall this is a great game for those who appreciate beautiful fiction-writing and exploring strange and inventive lands.

The graphics may look slightly dated at first glance, but this is a complex and rewarding RTS.

PROS:
+ The graphics really aren't that bad. It has a good level of detail when zoomed in.
+ Fast, addicting strategy gameplay.
+ Collection of simple systems come together to make a deep game.
+ Land, Air and Naval units, as well as Structures such as Nuclear Silo, Energy Sheilds, Turrets, Artillery and more.
+ Giant walker robots of death and flying saucers.
+ Unique factions with each advantages and disadvantages.
+ Campain makes a great introduction to each faction and gameplay mechanics and strategies.
+ Multiple options for micro-managing unit movement, attack modes, etc.
+ Fairly swift load times.

CONS:
- Cheesy campain dialogue.

UNKOWNS:
? I don't know what the online skirmish community is like.

LE VERDICT:
$ If you are an RTS or strategy fan, this IS your game. A staple of the genre. 8.7/10.1

Right now I've only played the single player. Once I've completed all the missions, the multiplayer mishaps will begin.

Leviathan: Warships was surprisingly easy to jump into: the simple commands and clean interface allow for strategy to come to the fore. The movement system creates the feel of a tabletop game, as well as giving you the amount of seconds it will take you to get to the destination.
With around 10-15 different weapons and add-ons you can bolt to your ship, there is a strategy here as well, rather than relying on a myriad of weird weapons. It also means the game is much easier balanced, as each weapon has its obvious strengths and weaknesses.
I hear the multiplayer is fantastic, and I recommend picking up a copy next time it comes on sale.

And downsides?
The networking is the worst implementation of server connection I have ever seen. If the game can't connect when you launch the game, there is no "re-try" button. The game must be exited and relaunched. However, this isn't such a bad thing as it launches in a swift 10-15 seconds. Also, your saves, replays, ships and stats are all per-server, which just simply sucks. However, if you stick to one server, you'll be fine and dandy. There is also an offline, and again that has its own separate saves etc.

But don't let that put you off! Really, this game is jazz-a-listic.

It's not great now, but later it will be. Looks to be an awesome game once fully developed.
