Steam direct $5000. Dumping Linux for windows 10.
The day i heard this news i installed windows 10 the same day. Wow so this is what unreal market place looks like! Visualstudio already setup! Nomore compiling unreal engine 4 and setup codelite accessor.Valve created SteamOS as a response to the windows store. The Universal Windows Platform does not require $5000 to develop windows games and xbox games . Linux what a waste of time...

Unreal engine 4 is free with %5 royalty if you make over a $100,000. Valve is getting rid of steam greenlight that cost a $100. It is being replace with steam direct .Valve now wants $5000 to publish a game.

Wish you good luck this will ever have anything to do with you.
But what has it to do with Linux or Windows?

Did you give it a try and actually read it?
"We talked to several developers and studios about an appropriate fee, and they gave us a range of responses from as low as $100 to as high as $5,000."
They neither said they would take 5,000$ - nor they will, my bet on it.
Ya I know it's up to $5000. I'm not going to waste any more time while they figure it out.

How much is it to get a professional Universal Windows Platform account - and to actually release a product there?
Universal Windows Platform $19 for individual and $99 for a company.

I'm still looking into it.
I'm both happy with Valve asking an 'admission fee', for which amount they are still considering,
and which will be _recouplable_

quote:
That changes this Spring when Valve launches Steam Direct. Going forward, developers will need to "complete a set of digital paperwork, personal or company verification, and tax documents similar to the process of applying for a bank account ", submit their game for a compatibility test, and pay a "recoupable application fee" for a game to be uploaded.

and with (optionally) publishing commercial mods

(I was ok with that also when they tried it a couple of years ago, I think it will boost / improve the efforts and quality)

Valve also typically takes a 30 per cent cut of sales through Steam.

;) good call brother.
I don't get the "recoupable" thing - does it mean Valve's share is considered payed for the first x dollars, taken from the fee?
Something like that Zyro, we'll see
visual studio is a bloated 60 GB piece of crap

windows 10 is a piece of spyware designed to compromise your computer, only an idiot would ever use that
