Here, it appears that the games consider themselves to be of different version - maybe they calculate a checksum over the binary, that would throw it off.
That means in general I can play with Windows-Users but in this case Saints Row IV isn't configured for a muliplayergame between Steam OS and Windows?
I think generally "most" work, but it is not guaranteed - they might work by chance (devs did not happen to code anything which is incompatible), or by design (devs knew to avoid things which cause incompatibilities).
H3ll, it's tough to get a game rolling with other players using Windows 10 for me in Windows 10 as it seems every 10 to 15 minutes something goes ape, or bass fight glitches result in a run of about 10 or more attempts to complete a mission. Fun game, but the issues are many even when considering the same O.S. -it would certainly be h3ll on earth for Windows <> Linux cross over I'd imagine.
Haven't tried SR 3 or 4 in Linux yet myself. Still wrestling with an openAL update in Arch that broke my Borderlands 2 and can't seem to find the the older openAL libs anymore in the repo or aur. Strange
Anyhow, take care.
