InvalidOperationException: Steamworks is not initialized.
I play a large number of games on steam, but for some reason two of them, 'adventure manager' and ' idlying to rule the gods' both do not run properly, or record achievements, or anything of the sort. The only thing I can find in common is this error:

InvalidOperationException: Steamworks is not initialized.

Now the games work just fine for everyone else, so i'm at a loss as to why others would be getting this issue as well.

I'm on a windows XP SP3 machine with 2gb ram, both games have been testing on an XP virtual machine by the devs and had it work just fine, so i'm very stumped.

You later said after your game forum post that you only have 2 GB of RAM as well as here in the OP and the game Idlying to Rule the Gods needs 1 minimum.

Are you sure you have enough RAM available while trying to run the game ?

You said the games " don't run properly". Does that mean you can play them or not, please ?
Do they crash or give other errors ?

In the case of adventure manager the game will run but when i go to close the game it hangs, i have to kill it under the process manager. Also achievements do not work.

In the case of Idle to Rule the Gods, it does not save my progress. If I restart the game I have to start from scratch, it will not load saved progress. When I close the game it hangs, and needs to be killed under the process manager. I have not gotten far enough to test if achievements work or not in that game.
In addition if I tell it to save my progress online it says I must be logged into steam to use this feature.. which I am logged in.

Interesting how both games hang during shutdown. But again, what about the RAM ? XP should not be using that much, but still, you don't have much left to play around with.

Try disabling background applications so to limit resources being used by other processes on the computer.

How much free space do you have available on hard drives in the computer ? If you have some, then increse the paging file size and test this again. Make it large if you can.

https://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/sysdm_advancd_perform_change_vmpagefile.mspx?mfr=true

After doing both steps above, make SURE you verify the game files for both games before you test them. Do that exactly as stated here....

As for ram/memory usage... undertask manager it says Commit Charge is 545M / 5993M

C: Drive has 750m free ( it's an old small drive used ust for windows )
D: Drive has 2.2gb free
E: Drive has 6.75gb free
H: Drive has 874GB free
Have page files set very high

has also verified file intregrity on both of them, they both were successfully verified.

I have not done the first one yet by doing selective start up but i will try that in a short while.

The dev in the thread from the game forum also admits to not testing the game in XP, even though the store page says it works on XP. So what do you mean in your OP here that it has been tested on a VR machine for XP ? By a different person from development for the game ?

http://steamcommunity.com/app/466170/discussions/0/364042703863021709/?ctp=3#c357287935558425022

And you also stated in that thread that Windows gives you a "stopped responding" message at times in the gamy Idlying to Rule the Gods. Is that the case ?

EDIT..Post a screenshot of all the installed programs that you have on that computer. Use imgur.com and post the links here. Please be sure we can see all of the programs that you have installed so expand the list fully or take multiple shots if you have to.

If you scroll down later in his thread he does say he did in fact later test it on a window XP VM and it worked successfully for him.

And when I mean it gets a stopped repsonding message, if I X the window it doesn't close, if I right click on the app on my task bar and select 'close' it says 'this program is not responding'

I'm assumign you mean just the programs currently running under 'task manager' and not EVERYTHING installed, which 95% of which is not running.

No I mean all the installed programs on your computer, NOT just running processes, please.

I did see that, but I did not see how much RAM that VR machine had that he was testing this on, so that may not be a valid comparison.

CORRECTION..my mistake.

Yes, and I have 2048, so I have more memory then that one does.
My apologies for the delay, this computer does have about 900 games installed so it took a while to make an album of the whole list for you as you asked:

There is one problem...Lime Wire. And Log Me In Himachi.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

I am continuing to search so we may not be done yet. Please don't reply with "but those are not running in the background."

I see this all the time. Remove the possibility by removing the programs from the equation. LimeWire is shutdonw anyway, right ?

Reboot after uninstalling ANY software, then verify game files as suggested here for those two games.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

continuing the search here....be right back.

And the well-known and seen many times by me alone....Skype. I know for sure that one can affect Steam even when not running.

What is that System Sentry program for ?

Akami Netsession Interface ?

What is your antivirus program ? I must have missed it, unless you don't have one installed.

limewire isn't installed. I get an error message trying to remove it but it won' remove it form the list.

I use Housecall's online site whenever I have issues. And no, i'm not removing skype. That is how I talk to my family in another country.

It is installed, according to your list of installed programs. Use a third party tool or the registry editor to remove it. Be careful using the registry editor if that is what you are going to do.

Then we are done here and I am sorry I could not help you. Good luck to you.

Excuse me ? For NOTHING ???

I just showed you proof of how it can affect Steam negatively in the links...just 2 examples of the many I have seen here. This is not my first rodeo, pal.

How rude that I spent time and effort here to try to help you and that is what you reply to me with ???
SgtSarros Jun 6, 2016 @ 6:51pm
Because, I know people who play both of those games with no problem, and DO have skype installed on their machines as well, and because I refused to uninstal one program you just go 'welp i'm done, see ya loser'. That is what you did. So please, do not give me an attitude like that.
