Why do people think the SMG is a good weapon?
Sure, it may be good for killing people, but, FYI, you can headshot them from long to medium range and melee them at close range, making it easily replaceable.
Not to mention that every other sniper secondary, even the crappy Razorback, is more useful to keeping alive or supporting you and your team, like the jarate.

Thats why some people take the smg, its just the need to show someone you can fight on medium range with more than 2 shots per minute and often people just run by and take some other

I guess, but if a scout gets close to you, SMG or not, it's rather likely you would die anyway, because the scattergun can 2 shot you if he got that close.
Because it goes pew pew pew.

In all honesty though, I get where you're coming from; jar+noscopes outperforms the SMG in terms of burst damage and accuracy by far, while yielding at least the same damage/time output, all the Jar's other competences left aside.

It still doesn't have enough usefulness compared to other sniper secondaries to be viable in anything than non-serious play.
Razorback keeps spies from backstabbing you. That may not seem useful, but atleast you'll trick BAD spies.
Jarate causes enemies to take minicrits and can extuingish fire.
DD lets you survive a headshot and take less damage from average bullets.
Camper lets you not flinch so you can still headshot that minigun spamming heavy.
SMG lets you do sub-par damage in range where you can headshot the enemy or just melee them.

SMG is good but Jarate is even better. End of story.
SMG is reliable self-defense weapon and it does its job well.
No-scopes sure do have nice burst-damage but those are not reliable unless you are some form of human aimbot.
Jarate+Bushwacka, either you ambushed and enemy with or enemy was derp enough to let you hit him, I wouldn´t count is as reliable method of self-defense. Same thing other melees.

People who bash SMG should really just equip and play with it and I should know that I was die-hard "Jarate-Bushwacka, everything else is trash" Sniper player but once I bought S.SMG for my collection long time ago and really started using it I do like it.

Sure it does not do that much damage but you got to remember it is self-defense weapon like Medics syringe guns, treat it like that!
You heard Spy decloaking behind turn around try one no-scope and start unloading your SMG, it is much more easier and reliable than start dancing and firing one 50 damage shot every 1.5 seconds.

To compare no-scopes and SMG:
With rifle minimum to kill Spy with no-scopes takes 4.5 seconds, with perfect accuracy
With SMG it is over in minimum of 1.25 seconds when you start firing, with perfect accuracy.
Ofc those values are never going to happen in-game but you get the point.

tl;dr SMG is fine it does it´s job well as self-defense weapon. Those who trash it, equip it and actually use it in-game.

SMG may not be as good as Jarate (but it's not terrible), but it's super fun to use.
If you're a camper sniper, jarate is good for spy searching. If you're more mobile, SMG is better.
Just don't use it as your primary and expect that to actually work.
