Any news on the linux port?
Hello there, the title basicly says it all.
The linux version was anounced to be released at the end of september.
Its now over mid october.

And I'm worryed we wont see a linux port at all?
Im very hyped for everspace cause I crave for a space shooting game like ED,SC and everspace.

I know this is not at all the same type of game as ED and SC.
So any news on the linux port :D?

@rockfish, I've sent this onto my Valve contact now to see if we can get a little push behind it :)

Hi,
Is forward_shading an option for you? (Not the whole game, only the translucent materials)
Because with it I got it working.
Try to use "Surface ForwardShading" under Material Properties-> Translucency -> Lighting Mode

Hi, thank you very much for the tip! Our technical/lead 3d artist played around with it a bit, and although he is not totally happy with the results, I think we could go with it for the Linux version. We're still hoping for a proper fix, but I guess Linux players would rather have the game with a reduced graphics quality than not have the game at all. So it looks like we're picking up the ball again, thank you!

Woohoo, that's very very good news.
You're right, having no game at all would be the worst scenario.

I am glad I could help you. And I am looking forward to the game on Linux.
Good luck with the further development.

Told you guys the linux community is open to help. I think many developers really miss the ball when it comes to linux development. You are creating a game for a group of people more willing to positively contribute than with a Windows base.

Awesome news, looking forward to finally getting to play this!

You are right! :)
Just in case, I recommend you check game performance on Intel Iris and Radeon (with Mesa) by using updated Ubuntu 17.04 to have latest drivers version (in 16.04.2 and 16.10 driver is half-year older). And it will be easier for you to set 17.04 as minimal version as soon as it get released.

This thread is giving me the warm and fuzzies. :D

Loved Galaxy on Fire 2, can't wait to play this while I wait for Star Citizen to make it's way to Linux later this century. :)

Glad that linux support is still in the works.
I think I'm right in saying that I have more linux games that sort of work than work perfectly. And I'm okay with this because most of them get better.

Would love to have Everspace on linux even if it isn't as good as it can be. The linux community is very good at debugging and are used to tinkering with software.

Maybe even release it in beta for linux.

Day 1 linux support buy for me. Game looks great and the devs seem to be really commited.

Gorgeous space game +1 Linux port! :)

+1 For playable game over graphical quality. Nicer graphics are of course always desireable but far from necessary to enjoy the game to it's fullest extent.

Like mentioned, graphical enhancements could be a later consideration once/if a proper solution becomes available. :heartbreak:
