how to make the AI attack you in battles
Im sick of the AI just running to highest perch and just sitting there when I attack them. It's really annoying especially since they have 2-3 generals in every one of their armies so im losing all of them using brute force. Is there any way to make them go on the offensive? They do this when they attack as well.

it's normal for the AI to camp in any mountain, they will even hide their army to deceive the player, for me one of few ways i force them to come down is with fast cavalry, hit and run, samurai archer to fire at their weakest flank or matchlock samurai, but advice is avoid attacking full scale, because AI loves hiding the army

AI will always attack you if you have a weaker army and will always play defensively if your army is stronger.

Edit: at least at Hard/Very Hard difficulty

You attack an army, means the enemy has to defend hisself, AI automatically camps on good spots, because YOU attacked them and YOU are the attacker, isn't that hard to understand I think... If the AI attacks you it's reversed.
Or you just recruit an arty. When you have better range, he attacks you everytime, doesn't matter, who is the attacker or defender.

There is nothing you can do against AI stupidity as CA has locked the code so modders can't fix it (like in Empire and Napoleon).

Like I said, when I have the unsupierior force as well, on when im defending, he just camps a hill.

I too have experienced that hill fetishism countless of times. The AI rushes to the hilltop and usually totally ignores all of my troops. It's easy to crush tired troops that ignore you.
Apparently, CA has hired another AI programmer for their next game "Total War: Warhammer".

In that case. If they do decide to use the Warscape engine on that, hopefully melee combat is actually good and collision is good. Both were downsides to Rome 2's warscape engine.

Yea, the AI programmer from Rome 2 was obviously fired.

Bring Artillery.
They'll forget about hill camping instantly.

Did you check whether you are on offense or defense? Its a offense/defense battleplay. If you attack them your offense and their defense, and other way around. But they will eventually sart attacking you later in the battle.

If defending then I would activate the battle timer and fast forward until the clock runs out (since you state you have inferior troops and have no hope of winning otherwise).
Kalon Jul 27, 2014 @ 5:16pm
Lol, if you are the defending army then let him grab a mountain. Run out the clock and insta-win!
But i got a feeling you are always the attacking army, which means he is defending which is why HE grabs the high ground...and yea of course he isn't going to give up the high ground dumbass...

what you CAN do, is if you can catch him while is maneuvering his army (before he has settled on the mountain) with arrows he usually comes charging in. But seriously, you are just looking to exploit the AI instead of actually being the attacker that you are. Tsk Tsk...

Wow, people are ACTUALLY MAD for the AI being smart? The game is suppose to be all about REALISTIC warfare. Ever read of the Art of War by Sun Tzu? Your suppose to abuse your opponents weaknesses. Jesus Christ such weak whiners playing this game.

It's not smart, attackers should attack and defenders should defend. Unless of number differencial.

This is one of the dumbest AIs in the history of Total War. The 10 year old Medieval II AI is way smarter than this one.

The game is suppose to be all about REALISTIC warfare.
TW games have not much in common with realism. They favor dumbed down rock-paper-scissor mechanics and fantasy units (katana samurai, battlefield ninjas) over historically accurate games.
