This is a great game in so many ways, but there is one mind-bogglingly bad design decision that has completely killed my will to play.

If you play in multiplayer (so things like Nexus missions), know that PVP with EVERYONE is turned on by default. The game gives literally no signs of PVP even being possible until you're playing in multiplayer and a griefer randomly comes by and kills you. If you die twice in a row without visiting your grave and claiming your inventory, it's all gone. So if you kept items that are semi-permanent in your inventory instead of storage because you had plenty of space and it was convenient, but then magically find this out (because at no point does the game ever warn you PvP is a thing), then you'll lose everything you've worked for. This game has been great for nearly a 100 hours but I was just trying out Nexus missions and got griefed by a guy who randomly killed me, and then stuck around to kill me a second time to ensure I can't get my inventory.

I hear that griefers are uncommon in this game, but the fact that this can even happen is such a stupid decision by the devs. PvP should be off by default, or at the very least you should be warned you're liable to being griefed when you first enter multiplayer.

I'm probably quitting this game now because of several tens of hours of progress wiped due to something I had no idea was even part of the game. If you do decide to play, ensure that your inventory only ever has temporary items, and that you keep everything important in storage. Don't bring important stuff with you into multiplayer or you'll have a bad time.

The world of No Man's Sky is insanely vast and beautiful, but there's nothing to do in it! There's no goal, no destination, no ending, nothing! While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull.

This is my most favorite game of all time! Been playing this game since original release. I love the come back this game has made, and have always appreciated it! Now its more addicting than ever! I love all the materials that can be unlocked and cool ships. Being able to build anywhere on any planet. I have my own entire world in this game.

If you like exploration games with a sprinkle of combat and base building, then this game is for you. If you enjoy getting lost in games and after hours of playing you look up say, "Wait... What was I doing again??" Did this game have a rough start? Sure. Have the developers redeemed themselves since then? Most definitely! Just give this game a try if you haven't already, I promise you won't regret it.

It's an ocean with the depth of a puddle. It's great fun until you hit the bottom.

This game is made for ADHD. I am 10000% sure no neurotypical game dev has ever touched this project. This isn't even a game, it's 36+ games in a trenchcoat. I've played for 43 hours and I counted, and nearly every hour I've discovered a wholly new way to play this game.

You want survival, crafting, cooking, farming, base building on the ground, base building in space, base building in frontier towns, solo play, mmo play, flight simulation, pets, riding mounts, flying riding mounts, equipment upgrading, terraforming, skins/cosmetics, factions to join, languages to learn, fleet management, math puzzles, seasonal events, 3D space navigation, three different systems for mining, run-n-gun combat, spaceship combat, microeconomics, pet breeding, music making, photo mode, custom spaceship creation, land vehicles, water vehicles, recruitable teammates with companion quests, frontier town happiness/productivity management, pokemon-snap style nature surveys, bounty hunting, smuggling, lore, history, mysteries,

oh and it has a compelling main story so far but to be frank I've barely left the tutorial in 43 hours because everything else is irresistibly good and distracting.

If you enjoy videogames for anything except bioware style romance options, you will enjoy at least part of no man's sky. Because it has everything else.

I wouldn't be surprised if two hours from now I meet some romanceable NPC with a dialogue tree either. It's just that deep of a game.
