I haven't really followed NMS during it's development phase,
I just saw the news few days before realse, then I bought the game, I had no expectation so I was fine with the game even if it's buggy and need improuvements,

If you had been following the game, rather than watching these highly edited quotes.. you'd see that from the start Sean has tried to make it clear Multi player isn't the main focus and no one should buy the game looking for that. In one interview he even suggest if you want that there are lots of other games that do it and NMS isn;t one of them. As far as impacting other players, You can name stuff, and others will see the things you've named, and you won't be ablt to rename them.. It possible that if the servers are not overloaded you may even see another player if they happen to be in the same place, but it's not guarenteed as it isn't in any lobby type system..And if you go look at the decripton for the game for steam, you'll see it's says single player. Which it is currently.
