Vive Front Camera Issues
I can't start the front camera in any way. In Steam VR Options the Camera Options are all turned on! It says i should press the system button twice to activate room camera but nothing happens. in some videos i see that there is also a picture in picture mode where my front camera lays over with a little screen above the VR. How can i activate it?!

Maybe your computer has no more free USB ports to adress the camera properly. Unplug every USB device not necessary and check again. If it works with the unplug go buy a PCI USB Extender card to plug in all your unplugged stuff.

I had to activate it in the SteamVR menu, and then restart the PC. Only after the reboot it seemed that Windows 10 recognized the camera. Try that out.

i can only get usb 2.0 and therefor not enough bandwidth for the camera. did you get it working?

the camera is recognized now, but when i want to test it in the settings menu, all 3 checkpoints were red, and the camera picture remains black.

I plugged into usb 2.0 and it worked for a bit. I think usb 2 is just not enough bandwidth but they needed to use it because usb 3.0 range isn't long enought for the headset. I have given up until they release a new firmware or something.

I plugged it off now, removed all unneccessary usb devices, remove htc vive drivers via steam vr, plugged it onto another usb2.0 port, let drivers install, start steam vr, testing camera, and same issue, black picture. don't understand it.

I have the same issue, anybody found a fix?

I've had it work fine initially, but it stops working from time to time. I was able to get it to work again, but I'm not sure which step actually solved the problem. Try disabling the camera in SteamVR, restarting SteamVR, enabling the camera in SteamVR. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling SteamVR or rebooting the machine.

If this happens to me, restarting SteamVR often fixes it. When it doesn't, I stop SteamVR, unplug/replug the link box and start SteamVR again. This always fixed the camera for me yet.

to find the camera is not the problem. but the three red x'es when testing it.... http://abload.de/img/cam0tl5l.png

Seem to have tracked it down to a USB bandwidth problem. If I shut down SteamVR and start a hangout the camara starts up fine. As soon as tracking is on, 3 red Xs.

Clinteastman have have the exact same behaviours. I tried Skype first, with tracking off, and got nothing. But saw your post and tried hangouts and I can see the camera stream.
It isn't just working. Sometimes hangouts doesn't show it but unplugging and repluging the USB seems to fix it for hangouts. So is is just drivers? Skype should work too...neither just windows 10 camera..just hangouts.

after update of steam vr where changelog says that camera usb issues were fixed, problem still exitst. change of usb ports didn't solve the problem.
