Vive HMD screen not turning off when idle
Posting this here as I'd seen conflicting comments on this issue.

Are the Vive screens supposed to turn off when left Idle? I've accidentally left it a few times now (usually heading downstairs and getting a phone call/forgetting it's on/etc). and I've come back an hour later to see the screen is still on. I've also manually left it next to me, and under my desk, and the screen never seems to turn off, even after a couple hours.

I noticed that similarly to the Rift, the Vive has a little sensor between the eyes that I would assume should detect the face not being against the lenses. Does this functionality have to be turned on as an option anywhere? Is it currently broken (using Beta 1460680192, and non-Beta 1460406581)?

I taken to unpluging it from the base station. Even with the screen turned off I'll come back it after a few hours and it'll be quite warm.

Do you unplug the base station completely, or just the power from the base station to the HMD?

turn off the vr software, the screens will go black

Not really a good solution when you're developing VR software unfortunately :(

Idle off seems to be working today though - not quite sure what was up with it yesterday!

The screens should shutdown/standby when not in use if you have Direct Mode enabled. Did you play with that setting yesterday?

It shut down but there is still power light on....is that normal?

I've found that when I shut down my VR software it will reliably turn itself off only to randomly reawaken hours later. I've taken to unplugging the power cable between the base station and HMD every time I put it away.

I also unplug and pack away my lighthouses every time as I won't have a permanent VR room until my tenant moves out end of the month.

Have not touched Direct Mode settings - my Vive has been in direct mode since I've had it.

At the moment it is in direct mode and is not turning off - it has been sat on my desk for around 40 minutes now and is still on (closed Unreal Ed about 40 minutes ago). Yesterday it was in direct mode and was turning off when idle. Very odd!

I'd started doing this but have been having weird problems since I started - my lighthouses today lost sync three or four times - that has never happened before.

I'll update if Valve take a read of my ticket.

I'm having the same issue. I'm developing with Unreal Ed, and my Headset won't turn off even when it is idle for a long time. I have it in direct mode.

I was wondering if you found a solution to it.

Just figured out my issue... I have a cloth VR Cover for the foam, and apparently was a bit misplaced and the sensor was detecting it. So it was never turning off.
