Over Sensitive Braking

No matter what setting I have the "brake gamma" set to, I always have incredibly over sensitive braking, I slightly push down on the pedal and my wheels lock up, and I skid to a halt, as if I were putting the pedal down completely.

This doesn't seem to happen with any others games. I have no idea what the problem could be here.

Would be helpful if you listed what cars you are driving, what other games you are comparing to etc and then testing back with those again before going back to Assetto Corsa. Do you have the issue while using ABS on?

Comparing this primarily to rFactor.

In this case, I have driven almost all of the vehicles, the problem is most prominent with the racing cars, I.E, the M3 GT2 and P4/5, although the problem is with all of the vehicles I have driven.

I do not use any assists.

Alright, the ABS stops the skidding, as it should, but the braking is still extremely powerful, again, as if I was putting the brake pedal to the floor.

I know what you're talking about (I use a G27), but I think the main issue is really just that our pedals don't have enough in-built resistance. If you think about driving an actual car on the road, you're only pushing the pedal down a fraction of the potential travel distance, but they feel much heavier much sooner.

I found that training myself to left-foot-brake helped a little, because I always had a foot resting against the pedal, allowing for much more finesse than having to move my right foot over and "zeroing in" on the brake pedal.

But yeah, it's definitely sensitive.
I very rarely use more than 50% of the pedal's available travel, and most inputs are probably between 5% - 20%.

Thing is, it doesn't matter how much it is, it seems to go on full brake... I'm going to run some tests... be back soon.

what wheel combo fixes that? I been looking to upgrade my very old G25 for ages.

I would unplug your wheel and then replug it in, then do some full pumps of the brake pedal (in game) to fully calibrate it. Sometimes this issue occured in other sims for me where the full brake pedal travel range was not registered, so it would apply full pressure far too early.

I find the KTM X-Bow is the car I lock the brakes up a lot with and the Ferrari 458 is absolutely terrible for it when you turn off the built in ABS (which is why I just drive it with ABS on, as it was designed!), where as I don't have any issues with the M3 GT2 or the other racing cars. I'm using the default brake gamma etc with a G27 wheel/pedals.

Okay, I seem to have fixed the problem.

Basically, I added a 20% deadzone to each side of the axis.

In other words, in the Options menu, the brake axis "range" is 20% and 80%, as opposed to 0% and 100%.

When I start the game the firsttime after a reboot, the brakes lock nearly instant at any car.
After reloading the same track with the same car, it's gone.

And sometime (especially with the 458) it seems that the semislicks lock the fronttyres really fast until you have driven a few corners

load cell pedals usually solves this problem (i use CST-3B). my advice is to keep training on left foot braking for paddle cars. i use to use no more than 50% for threshold braking to avoid lockups on g27 pedals. never messed with any of the deadzone stuff

The brakes are sensitive. You can do the squash ball trick or get one of the mods for the pedals. The other thing you can try is lowering sensitivity for brake axis in your profiler. Or just try being more sensitive with your feet :) are you left or right foot braking ?

That is completely normal. Always push down fully on brake before driving. It calibrates the pedal. Wheel self-calibrates, obviously pedals cannot. Well known problem (small one) with wheels for many, many years. I suspect you don't have too much experience with sims as this is one of the first things one learns.

Left foot braking.

I did manage to fix it by adding in a bit of deadzone.
