How to change resolution?

Simple question, my friend and I want to know how to change the resolution in AoE2HD

At present the only way is to first change the resolution of your desktop, and then to launch the game.

AOE2HD currently runs at the resolution of your desktop. There is no available toggle.

Hey freedom, how about if ur game is laggy and u wanna lower ur res? Is that a reason?

The game isn't calculating my resolution right and I need to set it manually. The resolution it thinks I have is way lower than it actually is causing it to look blurry and stretched

I have seen videos and different resolutions, It seems you need a rather "tiny" resolution (i mean a big resolution, way bigger than 1600x900) for it to look good.

Why?
Because I'm on Mac with retina display and everything is so small I can't even click it. I just don't like resolution 2560x1600.
PS: Changing resolution of Windows didn't help.

Exactly... I have a 4K monitor.... with an awesome DPI.... meaning I can't see anything of this game...

How is it possible this issue is still an issue? I have a 3440x1440 desktop and I can barely see what the heck the little characters are doing, and some menus and icons are so hard to see that it hurts. OTOH, the tech tree works perfectly, I wish everything was like that.

No easier solution than switching desktop resolution or using a third party program ? WTF man. How hard would it be to implement a proper resolution selection screen ?
