African Kingdoms and a (tounge in cheek) message to AoHD players
AoHD vs. [redacted] has been a divider among the AoE2 players for quite a while now. The top AoE2 pros and more serious players gravitate towards [redacted], while the masses of casual folk opt for AoE2HD. While both platforms have a decent amount of players, HD impressively pulls ahead with an average concurrent player peak of 5,000+.[steamcharts.com] With HD's new expansion, the African Kingdoms, the number will undoubtedly grow before decreasing again before the next steam sale.
Is it finally time for HD players to start accepting [redacted] more now? Yes, HD isn't as bug-free and feature-equipped as [redacted], but perhaps it's worth sacrificing some of the steam benefits to finally continue building a real pro scene on [redacted]?

I am an HD American scrub, I admit. But I really hate to see this current division between HD and [redacted]. There's far more new blood coming into HD than there is on [redacted], and with a new expansion on the horizon, the time for the casual scene to move into [redacted] is now! Continue the monotonous Huns vs. Huns, Vikings vs. Vikings, etc, that's been going on for over a decade, and start embracing the old AoE2 that your grandfather played!

Post modified from this[www.aoczone.net] post made by steve_nf (Myll on steam).

Hope you enjoyed reading this thread, feel free to drop by to [redacted] and [redacted] to say hi some time. :)

Edit: it has been pointed out to me I missed a [redacted] it should now be fixed.

Hmmm, checked the original post and [redacted] means 2 things. Is this somekind of test to see what peoples opinions and thoughts on the subject are depending on how they fill in [redacted]?

I don't see the point of redacting [redacted]; unless you think [redacted] [redacted] for [redacted].
Imho it's all a bit [redacted]

[redacted] obviously means [redacted] I'm just ensuring there is no need for the thread to be removed for censorship.

This is no test, it is a joke response to the OP in linked aoczone thread, which made somewhat ludicrous claims which seem highly illogical to myself, and many other readers.

You can choose to respond however you like, but if you actually have a serious point to make or would like to engage in normal discussion, the aoczone thread would be a much superior place to do.

I see. In all honesty the original post also looks like a jokepost really.

And now for something completely different: aren't you the mod on the AOE2 subreddit?

I was formally until my association with aoczone/voobly led to personal differences with the other mods.

Yeah this debate is like old moldy bread. Let the two communities be at peace on their own islands. Every person has their reasons to play on one platform or the other. OP should have known what kind of reaction he would get posting that on aoczone. I take offense that he calls himself an American Scrub. People that apologize for their country like that are weak minded. You should be proud of where you are from no matter where it is. One thing is for sure, he is a scrub. Might as well go post there too.

In all honesty where you're from should be completely irrelevant for a subject like this.

I'm also getting strange vibes from calling people weak minded when they say something like "I'm just an American scrub" the only reason he likely said that (considering the context) was to put himself into a position where he isn't going to get accused for arrogance (although It was kinda pointless to do so since the content of the post was going to make a lot of tumult anyway and he indeed should have known that).

Yes, it should be irrelevant.

He has framed in his mind that Americans are arrogant by default. Now that he has said that he can make some stupid statements and we can excuse them since he's just an arrogant American. As a proud American myself that's pretty inflaming. He can call himself a scrub no problem, but l won't accept that label he just used for a country of 300 million.

I can honestly say say that of the 30 or so Americans I have known well.... only one was arrogant. He had an excuse.... old shrapnel injury to the brain :)

Racial stereo typing is a dangerous thing even when we target ourselves. I'm British. But no way am I typical. Although I do like the midday sun [locally] and tea :)

I've never even heard the term 'scrub' other than washing. I have just come back in after a nice cup of tea in a local cafe. As it was a City Centre place it had visitors from many places. I heard at least 5 languages spoken. Sadly those who live in places that are all of one race often don't learn of the richness of meeting different cultures. That is universal... not just an American problem. The children in that cafe were playing together - if only adults would learn how too.
END OT rant ;P
Mr_F0NG Sep 21, 2015 @ 2:20pm
That wasn't too bad of a rant ;) Even though we wanted to have our own country and had to war over it I consider the Brits our brothers as well as the Aussies. I once had a girlfriend from Germany and went to visit her and her family for a month. Not so keen on her anymore but her family was quite wonderful ;) The Germans that participated in WW2 did some rotten stuff, but that was then and this is a new set of people. Same with Japan, would love to go there someday. I personally think the word racism is way over used, to the point where real racism can't even be defined anymore. I have both friends and enemies of every nation and race because each person is unique. Everyone get's to start out at 50 out of 100 points (if you are a stranger you loose 50 points automatically) and it goes up or down from there no matter where you are from ;)
mmmcheesywaffles Sep 21, 2015 @ 4:03pm
Well I define racism as an expression of irrational xenophobia; to someone THOUGHT to be inferior based upon unscientific and unsupportable hypothesis, often backed up with no data; or occasionally backed up with spurious statistics based upon equally unsuportable hypothesis falsely accepted as fact.

You can't build fact from hypothesis upon hypothesis if the building blocks are flawed so is the result. Or you could just say stupidity :)

Sorry - it's probably my meds :)
