First Time Startup Loop
Whenver I try to start the game it keeps prompting me to let steam and bioware install something on my computer. After I let it install the same prompts pop up over and over again. What do I do?

I can't take a screenshot. The steam is trying to install something to th runasadmin.vdf and the bioware thing is trying to install something on the Masseffect.exe

I am also running it as an administrator and the same thing happens

I am experiencing the same problem. I recently installed the game and have yet to get it to startup beyond this loop.

There are 2 pop-ups requesting admin password for the following commands to "make changes to this computer":

First request (this is all on a single line when executed):
"E:\games\steam\bin\steamservice.exe" /installscript "E:\games\steam\steamapps\common\mass effect\runasadmin.vdf" 17460

Note that this
runasadmin.vdf
file does not exist in the stated folder.

Then the second request is for the game itself:
"E:\games\steam\steamapps\common\Mass Effect\binaries\MassEffect.exe"

After permitting both requests there is a short pause (<2secs) and then the same requests are presented again.

To get this far I have already had to set the properties on the MassEffect.exe to run in compatibility mode (XP/SP3) and set it to run as administrator on this Win7 x64 pc.

The local game files have been successfully verified to ensure none are missing or corrupted.

Any suggestions would be gladly received.

Who, what is launching runasadmin.vdf ?
And did you try to install legacy physx?

Thank you for your reply :) .
Starting Mass Effect via Steam is what launches it. The runasadmin.vdf is being passed as a parameter to the steamservice command after the /installscript option.

No. Is this something to consider, or avoid?

Something to do.
And I *guess* passing that parameter is something steamservice tries every time with every game.

You have my thanks. Installing the legacy physx drivers worked (along with the aforementioned admin privileges and xp/sp3 compatibility mode).

Time to start gaming like it's 2007!

You can even remove admin/XP requirements.
