General Question About Game Loading
So, I apologize for asking this here if it is any sort of a bother. I was reading through a lot of the information on this mod and just have a few questions. Normally I'm all for just testing things myself but honestly ARK has my stress levels pretty much maxed out at the moment. I'm hoping these are things that someone here would be more knowledgeable about and be able to answer fairly easily... My computer is not exactly made for gaming, and ARK takes upwards of an hour to load sometimes- with or without mods.

Unfortunately I am finding this post difficult to type up right now... Sorry about that, I hope I am able to explain decently enough.

I play singleplayer and non-dedicated (private, local). The latency of my satellite internet makes online play... a whole other can of worms.

Question 1- Game Rendering of owned Dinos
So, normal vanilla ARK, do the creatures that belong to you (or your tribe) get rendered and loaded regardless of distance from you or other players? I know that dinos go into hibernation and stasis and all that, but does your owned creatures being physically present in the world, even if out of render distance, cause extra data to be loaded that may cause lag/issues with lower spec systems? Or does having them far enough away help with those issues?

Question 2- Stored Dinos present but not 'Rendered'
This relates to the previous question, but as this mod lets the creature data persist in the location it was 'captured' at... Would this make any sort of a difference to loading issues? Would it be better to have the capture locations for dinos being far away from your main 'base' (in terms of strain on the game)?

I know I had more to ask, but I cannot for the life of me think of it. Sorry, pretty sick right now, I shouldn't even be trying to... ask things?

I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out a solution that will let my sister and I play ARK together with less overall lag and overloading issues. Of all the things that cause us trouble, I have found our owned creatures to be the largest issue. I tried the mod 'Dino Station' purely because it was featured on the main page of the workshop and I wondered if it would help. And it did, amazingly so, whereas other 'solutions' we had tried (such as keeping our Dinos further away) did help but not to the extent of that mod.

However, that mod has an issue right now of dinos being cloned and overwriting others on server restarts (which obviously happens every day with a singleplayer/non-dedicated game). I'm wondering if using a combination of that mod, this mod, and distance would be able to be a decent compromise.

I've been brainstorming and testing and trying to get things to work for over a week now- just with the 'dino storage' aspect mind you, much longer in general. If anyone has any answers or suggestions, please give me a hand?

Hi there, no worries, it's not obvious at all as to how this mod works or any others unless you've modded in ARK before and understand its awful nuances.

1.) I'm not an expert on vanilla ARK that much, but I've come to understand quite a few things about the game in modding. Stasis is exactly what you're talking about. The farther away you are from dinos, owned or otherwise, the easier they will be on your system. In general, dinos have LODs (level of detail) that makes it easier on your system the farther you are away from them. In addition, all dinos go into stasis at a certain distance threshold. I have a couple of suggestions for you here and this might change the way you have your base and such set up in the game:
- Try to log out away from your dinos so that when you log in, they're not all loading near you, causing immediate FPS drops.
- In accordance with the first thing, perhaps it would be best to move your dino pen a bit from your base to help out with this, or maybe have a designated spot for logging out.

2.) When a dino is captured, it's not visible and therefore not rendered. This saves you from lag. What it does not save you from is latency, and this is because the mod performs requests to keep the status of your dinos in check, and it does them constantly for each dino you have captured. The reason for this is that when a dino undergoes unstasis (the act of coming out of a state of stasis), their visibility is naturally restored. My mod tries to force its own rules and overwrite that behavior.

Captured dinos, while invisible, still will process any passive logic that may contain. An example of this would be something like captured reapers staying underground between stasis states and such.

Dino Station is working differently for you because instead of hiding dinos in the world, it outright destroys them and stores their data in the Dino Ball apart of that mod. The only downside to this is that said data can become corrupted or lost quite easily and it's not recoverable. In terms of performance with my mod, you're going to most likely see higher FPS around captured dinos (even if you're standing right on that spot), but again, the latency can prove to be problematic if you're playing online in some capacity. In single player, you will not have latency issues, obviously. :)

I recommend looking up how to connect via LAN.

This uses your own in house network instead of connecting you through the internet, which, even if you're in the same house, will still generate latency. There's probably a YouTube vid guide on this
