Hey Awkward Wizard,
I don't have the final size yet, but I can already say that ПРЕДОТВРАЩАЕТ will be too long for one line in the vent module (unless I reduce the font size).
Could you image of another wording which gets along with shorter words (and still three lines max)?
Another solution could be to separate the words somewhere, like
СПУСК ПРЕД-
ОТВРАЩАЕТ
ВЗРЫВЫ
...or whereever a split is allowed in that word

How about СПУСК НЕ ДОПУСКАЕТ ВЗРЫВЫ instead? Sorry, this one sounds a bit stupid. Maybe СПУСК СПАСЕТ ОТ ВЗРЫВОВ would be better.

That should work

Hey guys,

Eric, our translator for Swedish, pointed out, that next to the fact, that many of the vanilla morse code words have the same starting letters, there is a second trick hidden:
Many of these words contain the same letter sequences (like slick & trick). These sequences can occur at different positions within the words and especially can even run "around the corner" (that is its becoming the same sequence as in another word, by repeating the same word after its finished), like strobe & bistro, shell & halls.

So if you like, maybe you can also find one or two pairs that imitate this trick in your language.

I forgot to ask for a label for the TX button on the Morse module... Would "ГОТОВО" be suitable? Or some translation of "Transmit"? Or would TX be a good fit already?
Toad Wizard Apr 17, 2017 @ 12:49pm
ПЕРЕДАТЬ ("to transmit"), ПЕРЕДАЧА ("transmission"), or ПОСЛАТЬ ("to send, to transmit") would be the best option, if possible.

ГОТОВО is fine, but it's not a direct translation ("ready") and not as 'authentic' for a radio/Morse module.

TX is too techy for most Russians, although it is used in radio transmissions among people who know their stuff.

If it was up to me, I would leave it at TX, since it's what people usually see when they use radio/transmitting stuff, and add a footnote to the manual saying what TX actually means (something like "TX (жарг., англ. — transmit) — передача сигнала.", just a simple definition).
Tharagon  [developer] Apr 17, 2017 @ 12:57pm
Yes sounds good.
Currently the corresponding sentence in the manual (taken from the fan translation) is "После определения слова установите соответствующую частоту и нажмите кнопку передачи (TX)."
Would you want to change it?
Toad Wizard Apr 17, 2017 @ 1:00pm
Nope, it's good.

Hey guys,

I found some mistakes in the Morse Code manual:
  • Russian letter 'Н' ('N' in English) should be coded "dash-dot" instead of "dot-dot-dot-dot", that is 'Х' ('H' in English).
  • Russian letter 'Р' ('R' in English) should be "dot-dash-dot" instead of "dot-dash-dash-dot", that is 'П' ('P' in English).

'Н' is never used, so it's a slight error, but 'Р' is used in many words, just like 'П'. This makes it very confusing to play, for example "Покой" and "Рокер" look identical until 4th letter.

Also, I would suggest replasing passwords "Г О В Н О" and "РОЖАЙ" with something else. "Г О В Н О" is inappropriate (means "sh*t") and "РОЖАЙ" (means "give birth") is the only verb on the list.
Good examples would be:
  • "НОМЕР", means "number"
  • "ВЫБОР", means "choice"
  • "ТУНЕЦ", means "tuna" (fish)

Hi Sedfer,
thanks for reporting! After having a closer look it’s even worse than I thought: Actually the word list (manual and game are generated from the same database) is completely using Cyrillic letters, while in the character list for the manual, three letters (A,H,P) are using the Latin Ascii code, so the manual generator put the English Morse codes into the manual.
This means the game is using the correct Cyrillic Morse code, while the manual is showing wrong codes :(
Ironically, I created the manual generator to avoid exactly these kind of inconsistencies.
I will fix the manual page for Russian Morse Code asap.

The password list was created with the aim to containing some words, which are highly likely to be yelled by the players while they are trying to solve the puzzle, to create misunderstandings on purpose (In the English version this is only done by the “Who’s on First” module, but I think this can also be funny in other modules). I can’t estimate the level of “unapropriateness” of Г О В Н О, but if it is comparable to the English sh*t (which is kind of politically incorrect, but in real life used by most people all the time), then I think this is exactly what we wanted to achieve.
Another aim was to have words with similar Morse codes (in the English original some codes are pretty similar, too), so this might be the reason why РОЖАЙ is in the list, but I haven’t checked that.

Thank you for your quick response!
I actually thought Morse code was broken in the game as well, but after some testing i can confirm that it's just in the manual, and the game gives you correct codes (even better than I thought).

As for passwords, I don't know how bad would it be to make such changes 6-8 months after release. I am not the only one playing this mod so I'd like to here some other voices before making a decision, but I personally strongly suggest you to do it.
Russians don't use the word Г**** very often, for me it's more disgusting than fun.
Tharagon  [developer] Jan 5, 2018 @ 12:48pm
I see.

When guessing why Wizard chose РОЖАЙ as an entry I mixed password and morse. One further thing I recommended when creating passwords was to have homophones in the list (identically sounding words). Does this apply to РОЖАЙ (and another word in the list)?

If we get no other opinions on this I would replace Г**** (and if it is no homophone then РОЖАЙ, too) with your suggestions.
I need at least the alphabetical position of the new suggestions in the list. Ideally also have a look at the translation recommendations - maybe you find an even better replacement:

For the German translation I included some of the instruction words like "drück" (press) and "warte" (wait) and some 5 character homophones. The rest is filled with topically fitting words like "Bombe" (bomb), "Draht" (wire), "Angst" (fear), and so on. There are no attempts to produce misunderstandings in the vanilla module, so I leave it to you if you translate it my way or keep it like the vanilla module, with 35 "usual" words.

There's no РОЖАЙ or Г**** in my suggestions for both Morse and Who's on First.
Tharagon  [developer] Jan 5, 2018 @ 6:27pm
Oh yes - I forgot. The password list was not created by you. Anyhow: Any opinion about Г О В Н О or РОЖАЙ ?
