Started Game without Mod... all in vain?

I kinda messed up. I started a new game without the mod running. Then I actiavated the mod, loaded, am researching imperial tech now.
My question is: Will I be able to get the metals required from anywhere? Haven't seen em on the map, how do you acutally mine em?

trade is your only option or any mod that adds an infinite miner.
