BUT honestly speaking the set looks freaking awesome wanna see it in the game soon :)
1) Yeah, I have. Even finished the whole campaign for both RoC and FT. But this isn't WC3.
2) This is most likely a submission for the Warhammer contest, so this isn't remotely related to WC3 or the original Dota.
3) I'm talking about Abaddon's Dota 2 model, not the original one with the white hair and edgy emo attitude. The original model doesn't even have katanas nor three of them.
4) As stated in the workshop rules: "When creating hero items, be very aware of how the values, color palettes, gradients, and texture details of your items affect hero readability in game.
You can differ from default colors and silhouettes as long as your items still support the hero's identification. For more details, please see our updated Character Art Guide." Link: https://www.dota2.com/workshop/
5) Please throughly read. Saves you the embarrassment.
This is merely a constructive opinion of mine. Sorry if it's too much for you.
I get you, he looks pretty af. Makes him a good hair model of L'Oréal.
But the set has potential thematic issues once Valve reviews the set. The reason why I was skeptical (If you only skimmed through my thread) is because the base model of Abaddon's face doesn't even have animations in the first place. It's just a really black and decaying head with a gaping mouth. That's why every set he has is either a hood or a helmet to cover up his ugly face.
The other would be the fact that I haven't seen any animations for the head piece of Vlad von Carstein. Who knows? It could just be an emotionless face with no moving mouth as Abaddon speaks. I bet it doesn't blink too. (The original Abaddon head makes a blinking illusion by flashing those teal sparkle lights as eyes, if you haven't noticed.)
No I get what you're saying. I really hope he has animations for it because if he does I will literally lose my mind over this set. I love the look of it and I'm sure with proper animation it will get it up there on valves list. As much as people preach about schematic issues with sets, I've seen much worse colour and theme wise get into the game.
*COUGHS* URSULA DEATH PROPHET *COUGH*
My point exactly lmao
Note: I'm replying to your original post primarily, but I will mention this part.
Actually, I think this is easily distinguishable as Abaddon... Given the mount and the way he holds his sword, there's no one else it could be. This skin, from top to bottom, back to front, is 100% ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ A! Just... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ A!. The Aesthetic change is what DOTA 2 needs. This could be a small step towards changing the way we think and look at skins. I mean, hell, the Warhammer contest has already done that to a small degree, but it can only go up from there. If they could work out an agreement with THQ and Relic then they will start working out agreement with others too. DOTA 2 is too big for others to not want to start getting in on. Let's face it... if DOTA 2 continues to take the E-Sports arena by storm, and the championships continue to keep breaking 20 mil each year, they will start signing agreements with the big guys... Disney (and thereby Pixar/LucasArts/Marvel), Blizzard, FOX, Ubisoft, EA, etc... Valve already has excellent relationships with at least three of the groups mentioned (I don't think they'd currently have a reason to have one with FOX, at least not that I know of, and while I'm sure they have a friendly relationship with Blizzard, I don't know that it could be called excellent), and can you honestly see them doing a nice Mythical or Immortal set for CM from Frozen that doesn't have Elsa's face? That would be non-optional. And they won't force the community to abide by rules that they themselves will break. At least not regarding the vein in which you were talking about. So no need to be insulting about it. Opinions tend to be more constructive when they're not insulting and condescending. Jsyk.
If the design fits the general feel and concept for the character, then they have no reason to sideline it. The whole point of having a skin is to bring out a side of a character that we didn't necessarily see before. Now if it sticks pretty close to the original, that's fine. Doesn't make it any less original, unless they are more or less giving us a different version of the same thing. But completely original designs for characters that while they fit the over concept of the character in design, while taking the aesthetic and totally changing it without fundamentally changing the general vision of the character (their posture, abilities, etc.)... that is what the workshop needs! Thinking outside the box... refreshing the original design and image... changing. ♥♥♥♥. up! We need the kind of innovation that will change the way we look at the characters.
Elsa/The White Witch (Jadis) - CM; Jack Sparrow/Captain Hook/Davy Jones/ - Kunkka; Zorro/Deadpool/Deathstroke/Bane/Raiden (MG)/Link/Altaïr/Geralt/Kai Leng - Juggernaut; Katniss Everdeen/Lara Croft - Windranger; Neytiri/Sylvanas Windrunner - DR; Batman - Nightstalker; Evie Frye/Electra - PA; Treebeard/Groot - TP; Balsa - LC (or Jiguro - PL); Gandalf - KotL; Mushu - Puck; The Thing/The Hulk - Earthshaker/Tiny; Reepicheep/Yoda/Riddick/Sam Fisher - Riki; Ironman - SM/Tinker; Phoenix (Jean Grey) - Lina; Magneto - Earth Spirit; Wolverine/Stitch - Ursa; Rocket (89P13)/Predator - Bounty Hunter; Psylocke/Black Widow/Violet (The Incredibles)/Liara T'Soni - TA; Blade/Alien/Kratos - Bloodseeker; Iceman - AA; Green Goblin - Batrider; Quicksilver - PL/; Electro - SS/Zeus; Thanos - Doom; Venom - Lifestealer; Clossus/Aragorn - Sven; Deadshot - Sniper; Hades - Undying; Darth Vader - Axe/Silencer; Daredevil - FV; Jacob Black/Optimus Prime - Lycan; Banshee - QoP; Po - Brewmaster; Hiccup and Toothless - Lone Druid; Dracula - PL/Nightstalker; Axeman (RE)/Gimli - Axe; The Dovahkiin - DK; Wrex - SB; Mordin Solus - Tinker; Aria T'Loak - VS...
These are all hypothetical ideas for skins that would cause the artist to completely change their appearance, both the aesthetics, and the ability FX, while hopefully staying more or less true to the general vision of the character's concept appearance and abilities.
Maybe some would work, maybe some wouldn't. Maybe an author would look at one mid-process and think, "This is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess, who the ♥♥♥♥ came up with this idea." while other's might provoke something more along, "This fits so well. Wow... this looks amazing."
We need this kind of innovation and creativity. DOTA 2 isn't just a computer game anymore... it's one of the fastest growing e-sports, and it's gaining the attention of outsiders to the gaming industry. We need content creators to start pushing the boundaries, and exploring the possibles when it comes to things like skins... because those become the uniforms and graphical draws that can help bring views and players alike to the sport/game respectively.
If DOTA 2 continues to be so successful in the months and years to come, we're slowly but surely going to start seeing more and more intellectual rights agreements for character designs between Valve and sponsors and interested parties and the like.
Might as well help it get it jump-started now.
Cheers,
~D
mouth still doesn't move lmao
