Companions can be found the same way as in the Native, you have to go to one of "Town" or whatever its called in the game, and go to the cantina, and sometimes you may find companions who want to join you, but as for the making friends part you don't need to have any relations with them or anyone else for them to join you, and then won't join you unless they are a companion.

okay i'll try it I hired some madalorians at a cantina i don't know if it counted as a companion or not

You will know if they are a companion because they will have a story or a long speech about what happpend to them
