Hearts of Iron IV

Flavor Names extended
Archangel  [developer] Jun 11, 2016 @ 12:21pm
Name suggestions
Here you can post names for gear that you think should be in the mod.

The rough guideline I have been following with regards to what goes in is this:

1) actual equipment, produced and developed in country
2) licence built equipment produced in country
3) potential licence builds that were not taken up because of reasons
4) actual prototypes
5) completely made up

Obviously, there are exceptions to the rule.

I have some ideas for Polish artillery (part of them are prototypes):

ARTILLERY(1934) - Armata 75mm wz. 31 St.

IMPROVED ARTILLERY(1939) - Haubica 100mm wz. 38 St.

ADVANCED ARTILLERY(1942) - Armata 155mm wz. 40

ANTI-TANK(1936) - Armata przeciwpancerna 37mm wz. 36 Bofors (you can do shortcut of ''przeciwpancerna'' to '' ppanc.'')

IMPROVED ANTI-TANK(1940) - Armata przeciwpancerna 47mm wz. 39 (also ppanc.)

ANTI-AIR(1936) - Armata przeciwlotnicza 40mm wz. 36 Bofors (plot. as shortcut of przeciwlotnicza)

IMPROVED ANTI-AIR(1940) - Armata przeciwlotnicza 75mm wz. 36 ( also plot.)

I'm open for questions and sorry if I used mistakenly english.

PS: Mod is awesome, I think best in workshop for now, I hope it will be often updeted with adding new things. :steamhappy:

I have made Flavor Names for the Swedish Tank tree.

GREAT WAR
===========
Strv m/21

LIGHT TANK 1934
================
Option 1:
Strv m/31
Also known as Landsverk L-10.

Option 2:
Strv m/37
It is AH-V-S from CKD.

Personally I prefer option 1 since then all light tanks will be Landsverk tanks and L-60 is based on L-10.

LIGHT TANK 1936
================
Strv m/38
Also known as of Landsverk L-60

AT-Unit: Pvkv IVA (Prototype)*
AA-Unit: Lvkv L-62 ANTI (Export vehicle)

LIGHT TANK 1941
===============
Strv m/40
Upgraded m/38
AT-Unit: Pvkv IVB (Prototype)*
AA-Unit: Lvkv fm/43

MEDIUM TANK 1939
=================
Strv m/41
It is a license Built TNH.
SPG-Unit: Pav m/43
AT-Unit: Pvkv II (Prototype)*
AA-Unit: Lvkv L-62 Anti II (Export vehicle, L-60 chassi)

MEDIUM TANK 1941
=================
Strv m/42
Also known as Landsverk Lago
SPG-Unit: Sav m/43 (Upgunned Pav m/43)
AT-Unit: Pvkv m/43

MEDUIM TANK 1943
=================
Strv m/45
Designation is made up. Use Strv 74 as silhouette.
SPG-Unit: Ikv 73
AT-Unit: Pvkv III (Prototype)*

Note:
There isn't any good fit for this slot between Strv m/42 and Strv 81.
An upgunned Strv m/42 would be a great fit but it only happened after the war as Strv 74.
However the gun used for Strv 74 was a WW2 AA guns and it would be comparable to a T-34-85.
So it fit this slot.

MODERN TANK
=============
Strv 81
Imported Centurion.
AT-Unit: Hetzer (Postwar trials, Sweden used the chassis)
SPG-Unit: Ikv m/53 (Ikv 72)
AA-Unit: Lvkv m/49 (Upgraded Lvkv fm/43, Designation is made up.)

HEAVY TANK
============
Just use Tstrv m/XX where XX is the year of the tech. T prefix stands for heavy.

Tiger 2 was used in Sweden for trials after WW2 so could be used as a silhouette for 1943 one.

*Pvkv II, III, IVA & IVB is post war prototypes for upgunning Strv m/40 (IVA & IVB) and Strv m/41(II & III) in an AT-role.
Bone Idol Jun 12, 2016 @ 1:11pm
You could do flavour text for the infantry weapons, where basic is great war rifles, weapons 1 would be modernised rifles, weapons 2 would be submachine guns and weapons 3 would be post war assault rifles.

For example: UK
Basic Weapons = Lee Enfield No1 mk3
Weapons 1 = Lee Enfield No4 mk1
Weapons 2 = Sten gun
Weapons 3 = L1 SLR

following archangel's guidelines...

#USA
# US really could use another step, and while the early P-40 is better than, say the he-51
# but the alternative would be to have the P-36 in the zero slot, but the P-36 shows up
# far more in the export market, so maybe having it (P-36) set aside for the export/license
# is better -- anyway, I used the export names for the P-40s as those cover the
# two major releases of the airframe for the war period (instead of having "warhawk" twice)

# part of the rational of wanting to have two P-40 categories is that the Airacobra and
# Tomahawk both were inferior to the Kittyhawk for the same reasons, basically
# in few universes should the Airacobra > Warhawk (at least the Warhawk that did
# the brunt of the actual fighting

# anyway, here's a couple variations on the US Fighter schema:

USA_fighter_equipment_0:0 "Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk"

Archangel, I am so glad you did this!

Not a suggestion per se but a correction. The Tech III German AAA is not the 8,8cm FlaK 41, but the 12,8 cm FlaK 40. Check this Website https://weaponsandwarfare.com/2016/02/25/10-5-cm-flak-38-and-flak-39-and-12-8-cm-flak-40/

Are you doing this for only the major nations or all nations? If it's for all of them, I remember reading about an odd tank design made by Argentina called the Nahuel. Only 12 produced by Arsenal Esteban de Luca and there was also 1 wooden mock up.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nahuel

The U.S. is also in dire need of an F4U Corsair.

Malize, thanks a lot for that, very useful! I think I'll leave the US tree out for now. I actually wasn't planning on shuffling the trees around for flavor, but we shall see.

KB, I can see where you are coming from, but I decided to use the 88mm FlaK 41 because it is pretty much the most iconic German artillery piece of the war.

Oh agreed, indeed. The downside is it doesn't really have a good place in the HOI4 tech schema -- the US produced so many different types, and the Corsair was practically niched to the USMC due to flight deck operation issues that the F4/6/8's didn't have to start with (although the F8 and Corsair were produced in the same numbers, but they are more equals in capabilities)...so it doesn't make much sense to put it in the "most logical" tree location, the cv_fighter category...and by the same token it doesn't really belong in the straight up fighter category.

One idea would be to put it in the heavy fighter category...maybe if there was a cv_heavyfighter group, because if you think on it the Corsair is kinda like to us naval aviation what the P-47 was to the USAAC...but that is beyond the scope of mod capabilities.
stm8022 Jun 13, 2016 @ 4:15pm
Out of curiosity, have you considered giving flavour names for the infantry weapons as well? I realize they're technically "rifle _and_ other stuff" but in case you wanted to go with it and use just rifle names, these could work for Italian tree:

Carcano Mod.91
Carcano Mod.91/38
Beretta MAB Mod.38
Armaguerra OG-43

(for 1918, 1936, 1939, 1942 model, respectively) First three were official weapons of Italian army while the 4th was (approved) prototype of advanced assault automatic gun, and as such i feel might fit the 'weapons iii' slot better than the alternative (Beretta MAB Mod.38A42) given the item descriptions in the game.

I thought that the only variant of the plane with flight deck operation issues was the early F4U-1a? I'm not sure if the later models had the same problem as that one.

With the F6 available the need to solve the issues with the Corsair weren't pressing for the USN, so they kicked the aircraft to the USMC.

But as an export to the RN where they didn't have as many options, they made the Corsair work for them and solved the issues...which in turn the USN adopted.

But for the USN the F6/8 > Corsair for carrier ops.

Ok, that makes sense. I didn't know that the RN fixed the issues with it.

I/II: chhose 2 among these 3
75mm Pack Howitzer M1 (lend lease form USA)
15 cm sFH 18 (bought 48 from germany)
10.5 cm leFH 18 (bought from germany)
III: 105 mm M2A1 (M101A1) howitzer (lend lease from USA)

Bofors 75 mm Model 1929 (bought from sweden pre-war)
Breda Model 35 (bought from italy 1935)
Solothurn ST-5 (bought from germany 1935, actually act more like Anti-tank cannon)
3.7 cm Flak 18 (bought frm germany)

Rocket artillery: no record use in WW2, no prototype

Interwar tank: CV-35 (bought from italy)/ Vickers 6-Ton (bought in 1934)
Light tank:
I: Panzer I (bought from germany)
II: T26/ BT-5 (USSR lnd lease)
III: M3A3 (lend lease form USA, a legend of National Revolutionary Army, stop PLA from getting to taiwan)
Medium tank: (all I found is this) M4A4

Modern tank: M48

Mechanized: M3/ Sd.Kfz.221/222/223
(sorry for the mess down there)

(tatical) Bomber: He 111A · B-10 · SB-2/3 · B-25

Naval Fighter: AB-3 (The Aichi Experimental AB-3 Single-Seat Reconnaissance Seaplane)

(USSR) I-15 · I-153· I-16·(USA) Curtiss F11C Goshawk/Curtiss BF2C Goshawk P-26· P-43·
P-40· P-51· P-38L P-36
(germany) K-47 (japan) Nakajima Army Type 91 (italy) CR-32 (UK) Gloster Gladiator

close air support: (US) A-12 · A-16 · (germany) Hs 123

transport plane: Ju 52 · C-47 · C-46

Edit: because at ww2 china's military factory is close to nothing, they just produce rifles, nothing else, not even anything license build
"Generally speaking, the regular provincial army divisions did not possess any artillery"
only bougt/captured/(mid,late war) lend-lease artillery
same for every non-rifle military equiptment
so if strictly following the first four rules, nothimg can be done for chines favour name without sacrifrising historical accuracy

if you want infantry weapons (own made) only i can give you that
I: Type 88/Hanyang 88

For Australia my suggestions would be.

Aircraft

CAS 1: CAC Wirraway
CAS 2/3: ?

Fighter 1: CAC Boomerang
Fighter 2: ?
Fighter 3: CAC CA-15 Kangaroo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAC_CA-15

Naval Bombers 1/2/3:?

Heavy Fighters: Beaufighters/Mosquitos/P-38s
Tactical Bombers: Wellingtons/B-25s/Mosquitos
Stratigic Bombers: Anything British.

Tanks.

Pretty much if it American/British you can bet at one stage or another Australia used it.
