All that said, I am surprised that MCM is crashing as the new campaign is being created, because MCM doesn't actually run any code then. However, because a lot of mods *use* MCM, there are a few specific issues that can cause problems during loading screens.
Have you tried resetting your configs or reinstalling the game?
One workaround you can use is to turn on MCM, load into the main menu, configure your mods, close the game, disable MCM, and load back in. Pretty much all mods should be able to continue functioning without MCM actually enabled. They just need MCM to show you settings menus in game.
