Cathars are the ♥♥♥♥ing worst idea this mod has had
I love this mod but trying to do anything in Swadia is impossible because you always get ♥♥♥♥ed by Cathars! What were you thinking when you made these to replace forest bandits? " Hey I have an idea! Lets replace guys with bows they barely even know how to shoot with fully armed and armoured knights with great swords! And then we will make them go up against peasents!" Fighting Cathars on Normal difficulty is litteraly impossible and then when you try and get popular is a village by doing missions you have to reject every request to train them to defend themselves because if you don't you get ♥♥♥♥ed by Cathars because WHY NOT?!

It's completely possible to beat them day 1, 1vs15. It's gimmicky and grindy and not very nice, but when I had to, I could. Step 1 - make sure to keep the horse. Step 2 - get the kings (forgot name, havent played it in a long time) big ass sword (but I guess any big sword will do) from those ruins near Swadian town. Step 3 - fight the battle on horse (!!), while exploiting the AI's ability to be capable of killing a man on a horse. Just run in a circle and slowly get a cut on one of Cathars horses. Cut by cut, circling around them and never letting them get close to you. After a while they'll fall, and that's when you split them up with a horse (they dont have one anymore) and kill them.

Yeah i tried to do that once but the problem was there was like 30 of em because it was the mission for teaching a village to fight and eventually my horse was killed and I was circled and beated. And if I try and grind em out on normal battles some will charge my men easily killing them. My concern with the issue is not their ability to kill me but their ability to kill my men. Forest bandits were fine, most archers can best em or any melee units will tie em up but these guys are totally superior to any of my beginning units!

Yeah man that's just how this mod is, full of stupid design choices.

Man up.
You'll never get a colony if you're being pushed around by Cathars.
Come with me to the merchant kingdom we have 5 fiefs and a boat.
You'll never go hungry again.

A very good way to fight them is to exploit the fact that they don't have ranged.Get a horse and either a lance, a big sword or a ranged weapon that you have a lot of ammo and proficiency in. With ranged you can just circle around them, take out the ones on the horses then casually take out the ones on foot since they can't catch you on horse

I found one way to counter them. Don't play as the swadians so you don't have to fight em.

Cathars are kinda easy , you can easily take on 20-30 of them by yourself.

kill all the ones on horse first, then just pick the foot cathars off with a crossbow one at a time , usually takes about 20-30 bolts since they usually take about 2-3 bolts of course it varies since the number that spawn on horse/foot is somewhat randomized.

My concern is that my men can take them on. Not that I can't take em on. They keep butchering my early game units

i don't think they are. they have no shields. they are mostly infantry.

and you can kill them with a single hit - i generally lure the main body away when theres like 40 of them, an fight the cavalry on my own while my infantry kill their infantry. its tme consuming but not to bad.
