The Pros and Cons of Blink Dagger.
I'll start with my opinion; Certainly not overpriced, but depending on the hero it can be invaluable. I'll do some math in my next comment on the discussion.

I am going to calculate the average move speed if one continuously blinks with the Blink Dagger. This is for you, TLP.

First, the Blink Dagger CAN move 1200 units, but only if you click a certain distance... It's weird. Usually it will teleport you 960 units. ( I say this tentatively; Maybe I misunderstand the wording of Blink.)

So, since the cooldown is three seconds, you can teleport 960 units every 3 seconds.
960/3 = 320.

So, the average movespeed of Blink Dagger is 320.

My rough guess is that the average movespeed of a character in Dota is about 300.

Using that and adding base boots speed, we get 345.

Default: 300
Default + Boots: 345
Blink: 320
Default + Blink: 620
Default + Boots + Blink = 665

Just to add more data, normal boots = treads = phase.

Default + Boots of Travel = 400.
Default + Boots of Travel + SnY = 464.
Default + Boots of Travel + Blink Dagger = 720.
Default + Boots of Travel + SnY + Blink Dagger = 784

My conclusion is that TheLiquidPepper has been preaching gospel. Blink really is more efficient than buying boots in the beginning by more than five times the speed. For squishies or irresponsible tanks, this is very useful information. I'll certainly be using blinks more now.

If anybody wants a calculation I haven't added, just ask, they're fairly simple.

(Devs, give me blink boots! Or blink tranqs! or something!)

also, they can be great for escaping, and getting on cliffs (especially bottom lane by the tower) so there's utility too.

Pros:
Massive increase in mobility; It gets you places even faster than the best boots in the game with SnY boost.
Great for escapes.
Great for sneaky farming strategies.
Perfect for multilane supports/junglers/pushers.

Cons:
Takes away 900 gold from your precious hoard.
Takes up a slot. (FAIRY BOOTS PLS)

I'd love to add more boots, but I'm hesitant to do so before I can figure out how to make them work with Meepo.

How did they code it in the original?

Another big pro is that it is much more fun to play when you can blink. :) Using an early 900 gold might seem like a lot, but considering you can sneak a few neutral camps and/or runes when you have blink, I think you get the gold back very fast. Thanks for the calculation. Very enlightening.

On the topic of boots, I think the upgraded BoTs are almost irreplaceable. Faster move speed, Nature's prophet teleport on short cd, attack speed. I am kind of sad that I never get to buy the other boots because of it. I almost always get tranquils as a placeholder for Heart, and sometimes Lithe boots to push towers, but hardly ever the upgraded treads or mana boots.

Why should you replace one boots with another? why not have as many as you'd want?
Having Boots of Agility+Boots of strenght, or Boots of Intelligence+Greeves is quite a successful practice on my side.

I wish. As far as I can tell, the boots thing is hardcoded somewhere that I can't hit, so it simply isn't possible to give him extra boots unless I completely recode his entire ult. Most games that have custom items don't have him at all, so I haven't been able to look and see if anybody else has solved this problem.

And can you set those names for new items? Can you have more than one of such an item? If so, then that would be how to fix it.

I haven't tried reusing names, but reusing names is... risky. I can override the items to make them stronger, but it means there would be no intermediate upgrades, etc.

Yes. But overrides have limitations: I can only change numbers, not abilities. So I can make Boots of Travel give more movement speed, but I can't change the teleport to be like our BoT3, nor can I add Attack Speed (because it isn't already there).
