Tips for the max efficiency
Do not relay on upgraded towers too much
Upgraded towers may increase your overall survivability, but still, they will consume up to 70% of your lane gold income, and that is excluding the upgrade cost itself.
If you really want to beat Horde Mode, and/or make it past the Skeleton boss, you need to learn how build your hero the proper way.

Good starting items for heroes
Any melee hero:
  • Stout shield
  • Quelling blade
On Hard and Ultra difficulties, you may face the problem that your lane creeps are not strong enough to tank the horde. Thats why you should tank stuff yourself.

Any ranged hero:
  • Orb of Venom
  • Quelling blade
Orbs of Venom do stack. Two Orbs of Venom build is legit for low base damage heroes, like Techies.

Any agility hero:
  • Band of Elvenskin

Any hero with nukes and/or aoe spells:
  • Clarity x10
Do not ignore the fact that your hero have a nuke spell. 100-120 damage may not look too much to care about, but take in account, that most of those nukes have a short cooldown, and with enough clarities you can spam them alot. The damage is usually just enough, to keep your lane clean, or, atleast, prevent the situation from getting out of hands. Clarities are also dirt cheap(15 gold).

If you're not really sure what to buy for your hero
buy Power Boots.
They provide every possible stat any hero might need.
Stacking 2 Power Boots is a good idea for heroes who benefit from both agility and strenght attributes, and who are, by some reason, expected to be strong very early in the game, like Phantom Lancer or Naga Siren.
I personaly advice you from upgrading Power Boots, and instead, replacing them with Heart of Tarrasque, and/or Vladmir's Cuirass.

Vladmir's Cuirasses secret features
Vladmir's Cuirasses aura is NOT identical to a combination of Assault Cuirasses and Vladmir Offering's auras.
Vladmir's Cuirass has an aura that works on towers, providing them with a 15% damage boost, lifesteal and a health regeneration.
Not only that, but the lifesteal also works on few other damage types Vladmir's Offering wasn't working with. For example, splash damage from Eye of Skadi, cleave damage done to creeps, or Willful Resonance's magic splash damage. All those attacks will provide healing.

My problem with Vladimir's Cuirass is only 15% lifesteal, which doesn't really cut it once the horde arrives. So, in essence you have to get another lifestealing item to compensate, which takes up an item slot. Another slot is usually populated with either Battle Fury or Dragon Javelins. That leaves only 3 slots for damage. Not enough. Should be increased by at least 5-10%.

A positive of Vlad's Cuirass is that it's _actual_ armor. It doesn't get reduced by Natural Order, which later creeps come with.

Do not underestimate Lotus Orb on tanks. It gives you armor, mana regen and it can reflect spells indefinitely.

But Vlad's provides 15% lifesteal times the amount of creeps you struck with cleave. Its like Satanic, but with no cooldown(you only have to position yourself correctly, when attacking creeps).
I can see that 15% is not enough if you're always fighting one creep at a time, but the magic IS all about lifestealing off the cleave damage.
If you're looking for a better single target lifesteal, then you certainly need Satanic instead of Vlads, probably combining it with some lifesteal auras and/or talents, like WK's aura, Broodmother's ultimate, Phantom Assassin's lifesteal talent, or even stronger stuff like Lifestealer's Feast.

If you have a friend, who can play tank and buy a Vlad's Cuirass for you, you can leave Vlad's Cuirass out completely.

There is one catch about the lifesteal. It still has the max lifesteal limit of 32%. You won't be able to go higher than that, unless you have a skill/aura, that grants more than 32% of lifesteal right away.

Ranged heroes, on the other side, have no decent way to lifesteal off their attacks. The closest I've got is Drow with Aghs, Skadi, Vlad's and Octarine. This way, Frost Arrow+Skadi damage provides her nice healing that kinda keeps her alive in the heat of battle, but once you eat too many Moonshards, you'll find yourself out of mana most of the time. Medusa's split shot can probably provide good lifesteal, too. Every other ranged hero is doomed to be stuck with maximum of 32% lifesteal against a single target.

How to use Mystery Orbs
  1. To build an Exalted item, you should have both orb and the base item in your inventory(NOT in the backpack). The orb and the item shouldn't be on a backpack cooldown* as well. Now just buy/pick up the recipe.
  2. Once you pick up an orb to your inventory, and let the backpack cooldown* end, the orb becames owned.
  3. Owned orbs cannot be used by other players. If you want to share orbs with other players, make sure you never let orbs into your inventory, and only carry them in your backpack.
  4. Exalted items are shareable.

*Backpack cooldown - When item is just moved out of a backpack, it has 6 second cooldown and is grayed out. During the backpack cooldown, item is unusable, nor it grants any bonuses like stats or auras.
