American cultures
So far there seem not to be any changes to American cultures. Now, I've been speaking with Qweytr and he says 'Challenger is reworking the American cultures for his submod. I'll probably copy them over from his mod once he's done.'

In which case, the following cultures should be added to the Americas: Canadian (for British Canadian provinces), Québecois (for French Canadian provinces), Mexican, Central American (this name is terrible, but I can't think of a better one), Venezuelan, Colombian, Peruvian, Ecuadorian, Brazilian, Bolivian, Chilean, Argentinian, (maybe Uruguayan, they're too small but I don't know where else to put them), (maybe Jopara for Paraguay, which is a mix between Spanish culture and Guarani culture, again too small, but again no good alternatives).

I don't know what should be done about Suriname and Guyana, they are clearly too small to have cultures added for them, but also they are fundamentally different to everyone else. The Americas are an extremely diverse place, and I sincerely hope that this diversity will be reflected in a future version, rather than the current Castizo/Mestizo that I see in code. Thank you.

Working on American cultures is a good idea, however you're basically suggesting that each country should have its culture. I like to think that each culture represents both a cultural and linguistic community. With this definition, some countries in South America can be grouped together, while Canada should be "split" between Canadian, Acadian/Quebec and Inuit cultures. As for the United States, it's a melting pot of different cultures but I've always thought the modern US should be split between Anglo-American, Dixie and Hispanic/Tex-Mex cultures. I found a modern cultural map which is accurate without being too specific :

The idea was to split up the old "Castillian" into Castizo, Mestizo, and Caribe. I may add a couple more groups but the idea is that I don't want a culture for each nation, since then it would involve having to be consistent and needing to add hundreds and hundreds more which really defeats the point of cultures as a mechanic. You can use this discussion thread to come up with TWO more Iberian cultures, give them a good name (preferably not national like 'Mexican'), and let me know which region they would encompass.

As for a basic Iberian culture in America, what about Hispanic? It's a bit global, but it would be better than current Castillan.

The map I posted might be not 100% accurate, but it's a rough draft of how cultures could look like for America.

I still think this culture map could be improved, especially because there are different cultures in the US today. That's why we have this big feud between the North and the South. Both lifestyles are very different. You also have Native American reserves in the West, especially in the Four Corners area, where some kind of Native culture is still alive. I would think of an American culture group, with different subgroups for New England, the Deep South, the Midwest, etc.

And I loved that comparison between Parisians and Lourdians. Go visit these two places, you'll see that there are differences. A few cultures don't have their place anymore in the modern world (like the aquitaine culture, Occitans took over the area centuries ago). But there are different cultures in France, just like in Germany or other countries which have been formed over several centuries. Regarding colonies, it's really hard to make a decent culture map, but Challenger did a great job with Colombia. I'm sure he'll succeed in creating proper maps for the other countries as well.

(Sorry, still have no other idea for Spanish American culture names).

Tonight's forecast: A high chance of tension!

I'll look at the Latin Americans and see how to group them. I think a good compromise would be to basically follow colonial regions. Yes it might mean that Colombia is grouped with Venezuela, BUT you would get a lot more cultures. At this point I think I will create a different culture group called Mestizo and group the Mexicans, Paraguayans, etc. into that, and leave some cultures under Iberian such as Colombian (but I may call it something else of course)

Good compromise?

I think so, but I'm also not sure exactly what you're saying. It would help me if you go over what that will mean for each country please.

Didn't see your reply sorry. It's hard and would take a while to describe. Once you download the mod's next update you can see in the cultures file the layout of the Iberian and Mestizo culture groups

OK, but prepare for a crazy person possibly saying 'THAT CULTURE ISN'T LIKE THAT, WHY HAVE YOU CALLED THOSE PEOPLE THAT NAME' with the next update :-P
I think Challenger got great ideas to represent South American cultures. You might disagree with his name decisions, but go easy on him. :) And remember that he's working on one country at a time, so he may add more cultures while working on a specific country. You never know.

I can't find the new cultures for Latin America, could you list them please?

EDIT: Found it, since they're unimplemented I'm reserving judgement, but I agree with what I'm seeing so far.

Glad to hear! :)

Is it a possibility that a Texan culture could be added? I only ask because Texas was controlled by Mexico at one point, but the people there were mostly Anglo-American. Those people who were living in Texas were at least sort of influenced by both Mexican culture and American culture, but just for the sake of things, could you add the Texan culture (if you decide to create one, of course) to the British culture group?

I will give that some thought and see if I can do anything regarding the American culture in a future revision.
