I'll make it 2 out of 5

I think it needs more pieces first. Specifically, versions with all the different railing combinations and ones without the button. That way it can be used to build larger elevators without having it be covered in buttons, and ones that don't have an enclosed shaft. If possible I'd also like them to be able to slide horizontally in a 1x1 tube for building retracting bridges, but I don't know if that can be done without breaking bottom attachment.

The game definately needs this. Nuff said.

I spent an hour trying to get an elevator/lift set up before it violently glitched out and killed me, destroying my ship in the process. This definitely needs to be in the vanilla game, or something similar.

Well I belive that just lke in midevial enginers we soul bo able to alt and merge blocks into each other.
