More echoes = more lag
I hopped on gm_construct and on my RTX 4070 SUPER which normally runs at my regular 165fps, it's getting only 68fps with all these echoes.

There's only so much optimization that can be done. I'll be adding a render distance slider in the options menu to allow people to change that if they're lagging too much though, but in general in any map that isn't construct or flatgrass, lag should be no issue.

Disable dynamic lights? That should massively improve your frame rate.
