Left 4 Dead 2

Vox Aeterna [v1.6b]
Kyle's Review of "Vox Aeterna" - 3/5
Unforgettable and unforgiving. 3/5 stars.

Vox Aeterna is a mostly enjoyable campaign that unfortunately spits on the player's face sometimes. All five maps are in fantastical environments that combine the American southwest with ancient Egypt for a unique desert aesthetic that's fun to explore. Survivors are very chatty, which adds a lot of charm and provides hints for sections that are otherwise obtuse. Set pieces are creative too, and the level design paces itself well.

But even as someone with a tolerance for difficulty, this is almost too much for me. Special Infected spawns seem to be doubled and instant death pits are everywhere. Unintentional jank varies from annoying (barricades taking ages to burn) to lethal (getting pinned somewhere bots can't reach).

The finale is a low point — a timed scavenge event that becomes almost impossible to beat if you don't pour cans fast enough, all while speeding cars try to kill you. This mod is fresh and original, but prepare to die a few times.
