why so much fps drop?
why does the fps drop so much every square the fps drops sometimes it is impossible to play well

Same. I love the mod and I have a i14900 with 96 GB Ram and a 4090 but after a few days lagging as hell. Will try to reduce zombie population in sandbox.

It gets laggy especially when spawning bandit houses start fighting each other.

Btw I usw Bandit extra mod "more options" too.

+1, 12600K, 32 GB RAM and RTX 3080 - cities populated with NPCs just tank my FPS. All settings are default.

Have you guys tried turning up your RAM usage of the game? Search on yt how to improve zomboid performance, it fixed to a good degree the lag.

My PC is dogturd in comparison to that, and this runs great for me. Occasionally crashes to main menu when in really a populated city when the bombs are going off and the airdropped flyers are everywhere.But when i load in, a few error reports and its good as gold again. Maybe what Ragnaroksy suggested, actually put the 80g of ram you aren't using to use?

That's not the case - xms and xmx are already set to 8192 and 16384 respectively.

The issue is my 10-core CPU is not loaded at all - 15-20% CPU load while having 12-20 FPS in areas like West Point, Muldraugh, Louisville, etc.

Tried to disable E-cores, the result is the same.
I think devs did something weird with AVX, that's possibly the case why users with older CPU's have much better performance.

The fps drops is unplayable.

it's complex mod and i warn about it on mod page and give advice what to do also. I have a mediocre machine myself and I feel it's playable but that's my personal opinion. When i watch streamers who have monster computers they seem to run it almost flawlessly apart from some moments or places where it temporarily slows down.

It is completely fine for me, but whenever I move to the city it starts turning into 2seconds/frame drop every cell I move into.
My population is set to Normal I think. Also whenever moving into a more populated building it's about 5seconds/frame which is a bit annoying.

Do you have recommended settings for population with this mod? Or on how to change a save's sandbox settings?

Change population multiplier in sandbox settings of the week one mod to 0.5. Avoid louisville and buildings with big rooms.

Also remove npc vehicles that add some lag too if you want
Honestly the only thing I would suggest is perhaps having the fliers event drop a lot less fliers, and instead maybe have it trigger again the following day if the player somehow missed the first one? As the event currently is, the helicopter drops hundreds of the things and it definitely slows things down a fair bit from all the individual fliers. Scattering like...20-30 of them near the player and then doing it again the following day instead of 100+ of them the one time might be less taxing on the game.

It only took me a few mins to pick them all up tbh.

I noticed there was a barricade to the city on the first day and I took that as a challenge to run over the guys guarding it, and the cops included then just walk around it and continue moving up to the city. I did not really see anything that would tell me to avoid the city early on, and if there was it did not try hard enough to stop me. Will there be a patch to fix the issues in the big city? I would look forward to that.

I agree. There are WAY too many fliers.

Why do you think fliers are the source of lag?

80x80 area with a chance of 1/50 gives 128 items. Is that a lot? If i unload items from my car on ground i can get more.
