Project Zomboid

[B42] Week One NPC

Why is ProjectZomboid.exe trying to connect to dozens of different countries when I run this mod?
Saudi Arabia, India, Switzerland, and many many more. Removing the mod stops the alerts. So what's up?

Well, probably because its still pulling the server list and peer connecting to each server on the list to get server info. It does the exact same on stable to the exact same IPs. You can see a majority of the IPs are using the default port ranges.

TCP(/UDP); 27015-27030 and 27036-27037.

UDP; 16261, 16262

And before people say "well there isn't multiplayer in b42" they removed the ability to use the multiplayer, the backend is apparently still functioning in the background just not enabled in the UI.
Can you post the IPs that you're seeing? I tried running PZ with the mod and without and I saw the same connections, which makes sense with Monstrz explanation.

My server list is completely blank. Not surprised by that since I haven't played multiplayer in years, well before this PC was built. Most attempts are using normal Steam ports for multiplayer, but not all.

Yeah I'm seeing those without the mod installed, I'm also seeing hundreds of other IPs and URLs for various game server hosting services on PZ's startup.
My serverlist is also empty, so I don't believe that's the cause.

In my opinion this is a mix of 1) PZ's netcode scanning for available game servers on startup and 2) Metric gathering tools for b42. Either way, removing the mod has not produced a difference that I could observe.

Thank you 🙏. Strange that I don't get these at all without the mod installed. The time stamps on the logs correlate perfectly to when I loaded with the mod installed and as soon as I uninstalled it, they stopped. I continued playing B42 for about an hour and a half after uninstalling the mod with no outward connection attempts flagging anything.
It's a build 42 issue, not an issue with the mod. Not entirely sure why the problem only happens for me and a few others while your mod is running, but I got confirmation from TIS on their forums that this exact kind of flag from MWB has been happening for players with B42 and it's a bug where the game tries to ping multiplayer servers even in single player. Perhaps they hotfixed it and the mod began development when it was still an issue, and something about that makes the behavior happen again when running the mod.

Regardless, thank you to Slayer for the hard work, and I look forward to the shenanigans your mod has to offer once again. Will reinstall when I get home 🙏
