[B42] Week One NPC
No keys are spawning now
I thought maybe this was a sandbox setting I'd changed but I can't replicate it. I'm getting no key spawns at all since the recent update. No keys spawning in lockers or desks at the police station and no keys on the corpses of police officers. I did find a couple of keyrings in car parks, but no keys at all in parked cars as I did before today (I'm using Common Sense mod to enable opening doors with crowbar). I notice in the change log something about fixing car keys, did this affect all keys?

Also, this doesn't address the fact that police station keys no longer seem to be spawning. I suspect your changes to car keys have had an unintended effect on other types of key. I'm not finding keyrings at all now, except in the spawn house

Just spawned in after full reinstall, two keyrings in a fanny pack both with keys, key in next door neighbours house.10000% improvement. Do a reinstall pal. Seems the issue lay with steams famously unreliable auto updater.
You guys arent the only one with this issues. Im also not getting keys spawned // very rarely i find residence keys. Spawn rate is on 4.

Gonna try full reinstall!

Fix keys means that you dont find them on ground and shop counters which is absurdal but also in some more resonable places like desks which is governed by the same gamr function. You just need to obtain the car the harder way. There are still multiple options to do that

Issue is, its not only about car keys so far. In spawn house, i find several Residence keys, in other houses i dont find any. Best example is Police station.
before 42.1 there were multiple keys to find, get access to armory and stuff. currently, after several runs (and i mean like 10-15), i didnt find a single key. none in the storages in the building, nor on any of the npc. gonna check if the reinstall fixes this and write again! :)

@Slayer Car keys are not my issue! Please read my posts
Can confirm that keys do not spawn, neither in containers nor glove boxes.

the mod overwrites the standard key spawn chance. The reasoning is simple, in the prepandemic world you don't find keys on floors and in random counters. You can still find them in glove boxes and soon a I will make them spawn also in npc inventory. For now you have to be resourceful.
People do drop their car keys sometimes, difference between regular living and the ingame now is that in regular living you would go to lost and found or ask inside a store if anyone is missing their keys.

But if everything is in a state of chaos and with the haha chaos energy of this mod who would not just keep the keys to themselves?

This focus on car keys is just a massive distraction, and the knock on effect is that the drop chance for *all* keys is now set to "0" in the pre-breakout phase of the mod, and to "0.2" afterwards. This includes the keys for police armories and for the military base. It also means that the funky new keyrings introduced in B42 don't drop either, which add a lot of flavour to the game.

I think this change should be reverted back to how the PZ devs designed it, even if that means that players find car keys dropped in car parks. I really don't understand Slayer's hang-up about this. If players want to get in a car first thing and drive to Louisville or out into the forest, then let them!

(By the way, there are already roadblocks that make it almost impossible to drive from Muldraugh to West Point, let alone all the way to Louisville.)

i might add correct home keys spawning in near future, for now accept the fact that i dont want the keys on the floor, in the same way i dont want blood puddles, car wrecks or anything that does not fit the prepandemic style. There are many other ways to open the door, this functionality is not critical.

Just reporting a bug I noticed in 42.1.1, which is already known to have issues with NPC vehicles. Found a NPC with several car keys in his inventory, each key seemingly corresponded to the cars in the parking lot nearby (same car names) but none actually worked.

Bandits can and will loot and kill and steal everything in sight, I got home invaded in Muldraugh, killed them all with my M9 and one of them had a load of vehicle keys on him.

Welp, I guess I will just have to edit the mod files directly then, every time it's updated. You are removing a ton of useful keys from where they should be in real life just because you don't like the idea that people drop their car keys in the car park... Shame you can't just add rare key spawns as a sandbox option.

I don't like your attitude. It's like and am working for you or what? I am not here to fulfill every wish and they don't pay me for that. You want to help you can code it yourself and contribute to the mod so that it works the right way.
I noticed that no car keys are found on the ground, where in the previous B42 version they were pretty abundant with this mod. Funny enough, I'll kill a random person and they have like 6 vehicle keys on them and the vehicles are usually all located in the same area. Seems like the NPCs are picking the keys up off the ground.

I've just been following the instructions @Silverwind posted to edit the mod files https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/3403180543/510696183800334101/#c592887031601874879

oh, there was a start with car option added?? I dont think I would use that on a regular run where I play some dirty smoker alcoholic, but its exactly what I want when I start as a police office. Please tell me it will start me with a cop car variant if Im a police officer :)
