Potential Bug: Long KX Cough
A report of a player coughing for 10 days without other symptoms. Could be related to changes in B42 cold system, conflicting mods or a digestion cycle. At this time cannot be repeated.

Please post any console.txt or save files here with full mod list if you encounter this bug.

Thank you!

Hey thanks for testing! My character is just coughing, no "yuck", "gahh", "uhhg" animations are being played. It seems that my character is just spamming "Coughing" the whole time which is weird. This issue only got fixed temporarily for me is restarting the game save which actually worked until the temperature dropped, got cold and my character spammed coughing again for 3-4 days. I think it might has to do with the B42 cold system but I am not 100% sure.

I think you might be right there may be something happening in the cold system. The temperature thing makes me think it's part of vanilla code. But it could be because of the way some parameters are handled. The info is helpful, I have some ideas for more tests. Thanks!

I have looked into this more and all my additional tests did not repeat any problem here. But I did find some info as I searched around. Any chance your character is a smoker? More importantly are you using the mod "Smokers Cough"? This mod has been updated to B42 and seems to have the behavior your are describing as a feature that is on by default.

Hi again, no I'm not using any mods relating to smoking although my character is a smoker but it isn't related any of that since this happened after using the medication I referred earlier.
Phil J Herman  [developer] Dec 28, 2024 @ 3:03pm
They did a bunch of weird stuff to the smoker trait in B42 but I do not think they added a persistent 'smoker cough' but it is possible something is happening there due to those changes.

Does the character say "coughing" or "cough" or something different? If you could let me know the exact text then I can look in the code to see what it comes from.

Do you have any other mods installed? Can you provide full mod list? Since I cannot repeat it is likely a conflict either with something in B42 or another mod.

Since your character is smoker and there are a lot of people complaining and reporting bugs about the changes, there could be a connection.

this is my mod list: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3394632003. The character only says "cough" nothing else oh there is also an audio played for coughing just to let you know.
Phil J Herman  [developer] Dec 28, 2024 @ 3:11pm
Awesome, thanks! Okay yeah that is the built in system if it is playing audio too. I will take a peek and see what I can find. There used to be an old bug where people would cough every in-game minute, is that the symptom you are having like it is just constant cough cough cough cough cough?
Phil J Herman  [developer] Dec 28, 2024 @ 3:12pm
Unfortunately I cannot access that link, you may need to make the mod list public, at least temporarily.
Xen Dec 28, 2024 @ 3:17pm
Yeah it's a constant cough cough like my character is spamming it without any delay. I've made the link public so you should be able to access right now! Just to let you know I also have a mod that shows my characters stats like tiredness, stamina, hunger, sickness, etc but my sickness bar is at 0% so it should mean that my character is not sick.
Phil J Herman  [developer] Dec 28, 2024 @ 3:21pm
Got it! Will take a look. Sickness I think refers to the stomach sickness, then infection is zombie sickness, the variable that controls cough/sneeze is CatchaColdStrength. But since you are only coughing it is likely something that has been bypassed in the new code to access only the cough and not the sneeze. I am not sure exactly how all the new stuff works though.
Xen Dec 28, 2024 @ 3:26pm
Ok and the last thing I wanted to add is that I was bitten thus the reason I used the medication to somehow cure myself of the zombie infection.
Phil J Herman  [developer] Dec 28, 2024 @ 3:29pm
Do you remember which one it was by any chance?
Xen Dec 28, 2024 @ 3:34pm
If you are asking about the medication it is the droolox sialog if I remember it correctly
Phil J Herman  [developer] Dec 28, 2024 @ 4:57pm
I did some testing on your mod set but I could not get the issue to repeat. The modset is pretty vast I imagine there is a conflict somewhere that is getting triggered when you either get or cure a cold. Droolox doesn't have any side effects at all, but some of the others do. The code in this mod that handles that is the same way you get a cold in any other case, so I think likely with that mod set you will see this occur both with and without CDCRR2 - it will be at times that your character should be getting a cold. It could be either something messing with new B42 cough only state that is now in vanilla or it could be a multi-mod conflict. You can try removing CDCRR2 but I do not think it is the cause, but it is triggering you getting a cold and from whatever state you are in when that happens seems to be the issue. I would try reducing the mod list, especially mods that are very complicated or with heavy features and see how things go then. - Another fix is to avoid smoker for now as I think that is where the root cause is as it is the only part of vanilla code that makes you cough without sneezing too.

Alright thanks for the testing, happy new years brother!
