TerRoguelike

Want more weapons? Try this!
You can use the mod Cheat Sheet to give yourself any weapon from the game.
I'm trying to find fun additions that work well and don't make it TOO easy.

So far I have beaten TerRoguelike with the Paladin's Hammer (and I'll update this as I test more) which was really fun and gave me the melee type game style i was looking for.

I have also like to use magic items like abilities with mana as the cooldown. It gets boring doing one attack lol. Sentries and summons also add a nice combat pet.

As blue tier I’d add
Ice rod
Houndius Shootius
Blade Staff
Sanguine Staff

As green tier I’d add
Inferno Fork
Rainbow Gun
Queen Spider Staff
Zeno Staff
Optic Staff

As red tier I’d add
Magnet sphere
Razorblade Typhoon
Staff of the Frost Hydra
Desert Tiger Staff
Stardust Cell Staff

Please try out others and let me know how it goes!

-----UPDATE!!-----
As of Jul 16 @ 5:10am
Version 1.1.0 has been published to Stable tModLoader v2024.5

Introducing the Arsenal Update!

Added new starter weapons - 4 new weapons, adding up to 6 total starter weapon options. You can choose 1 ranged weapon and 1 melee weapon on the character creation screen.
New weapons include Spear, Cannon, Dagger, and Rifle.

I'd like to think we had some small hand in this 😊 but I'm thrilled to see new weapons added!!!
All hail AquaSG

Just did a short run with the Paladin's Hammer myself, and it seemed to work well enough... mostly. There are some very weird interactions that the Hammer and other weapons have with certain items, like the projectiles getting all weird with items like the Spent Shell or Shotgun Assembly Kit. They don't seem to shoot more projectiles at all as far as I've noticed.

Might be able to use even more weapons if you throw in W1K's Weapon Scaling mod to upgrade certain weapons. It's fun and pretty cool to use different weapons, just a shame that some (probably obviously) don't work completely with the mod.

Yeah the spent shell, and other gun mods seem to only work with the starter gun from the mod and not other base terraria weapons, but they can still be traded for mods that help the run. You can still build crit, attack speed, death procs, and extra effects on pretty much whatever weapon. I’ve never tried W1K’s mod tho, I’ll have to give it a look. Thanks!

How I'd personally implement these, at least until we get news about more weaponry.

Spin a wheel after each floor. 4x Blue, 2x Green, 1x Red.

If it hits Blue, get an ice Rod. If it hits Blue again, get 1 mana crystal.

If it hits Green, spin another for Fork or Rainbow Gun, If I get Green and i get a duplicate, get 1 mana crystal.

If it hits Red, get magnet Sphere. if I get another, get 3 mana Crystals.

That's assuming Mana Crystals even work in this setting, of course. I'll test this later.

I just started a run with Paintball gun and Blade staff LMAO it is painful as hell

Edit: the base-game is somewhat possible LOL bosses take a eternity and the brain of ctulhu is unkillable

My suggestion would be to add a magic weapon, and then add an anvil in the newt room with the ability to upgrade one of your weapons once per anvil. Not just increase base damage, but change the swing/shot in a way that makes it more interesting

That’s a good work around for now. I’m gonna see if I can figure out how to add items to the roll tables in the mod. I’m not sure if that’ll end up being a dependent mod or a file value change, but I’ll post it here when/if I can figure it out.

Yeah, I can see that being VERY hard lol. I do like the idea of adding small summons like that, sort of like a small damaging companion just to add variety to the game. I bet they can apply chance proc mods so they could be super useful in that type of build. I’ll look into summons!

I wish I knew how to do that 😭 maybe one day the mod maker will add more modable items! Some of the base game magic items do work with the mod changes such as exploding projectiles, increased speed, crit, size, and some of the red tier mods can make spells go crazy!

What I'm doing is using seperate wheels right now. I also have a 4% chance per room to get a weapon alongside my item, and im planning to test with MORE weapons to see which ones would make sense and be combat viable for TerRoguelike

Been messing around with Cheat Sheet and spawning in weapons for some neat alternate playstyles. I made a list of them here.
Note: If you're using Quick Restart, your accessories and Mana are actually saved, which saves time on setup between attempts.

Dark Mage
Unholy Trident + Mana Regeneration Band + Magic Cuffs + Sorcerer Emblem + Full Mana
Your firerate and damage is significantly better than the standard gun, on top of having piercing, but you need to worry about managing your Mana. Difficult to use in boss fights, but the piercing and extra wait time between waves makes it well-suited for standard encounters.

Cryomancer
Ice Rod + Mana Regeneration Band + Sorcerer Emblem + Full Mana + Mana Regeneration Potions
This build is gimmicky and stupid. Damage is lacking without certain items. However, the ability to block off enemies with the Ice Rod can make encounters very interesting, to say the least.

Crusader
Paladin's Hammer
Simple, yet effective. The "boomerang" nature of the Paladin's Hammer makes it a fun combo with a lot of items, and its knockback makes it very effective against certain enemies.

Captain
Sergeant United Shield
Decent damage, decent attack speed, and decent crowd control. The way the weapon moves makes for an interesting gameplay style in regards to encounters, and it can helpful for dealing with minions during boss fights.

Rocketeer
Proximity Mine Launcher + Multiple stacks of Cluster Rocket Is
Incredible multi-hit damage and crowd control with unpredictable explosive self-damage. Being able to plant mines on the ground for triple damage can also be useful in combating certain bosses and physical-oriented enemies. Dangerous in close-quarters, but incredible effective if used properly.

Jouster
Shadow Jousting Lance + Aglet + Anklet of the Wind + Warrior Emblem + Avenger Emblem
It's a jousting lance build! Scales with speed increases and melee boosts VERY well. It hits constantly as well, so status infliction is the king here.

Monk
Dao of Pow
It's a mace! It confuses enemies, but in actuality this doesn't do anything on most of them. Pretty fun overall.

I love this! I always end up making fantasy classes into Terraria lol. I think the Cryomancer needs the Staff of the Frost Hydra. That would make a fun build I think, and it seems impossible to play with just the Ice Staff. I’d also give the Jouster the Tabi to dash and deal major poke damage.
Netho Warrior Jul 16, 2024 @ 4:49pm
Tried out your suggestion for Cryomancer- it's a lot more fun and enables some strategies with boxing the enemy in via Ice Rod and then summoning the Frost Hydra on top of them. Definitely prefer it over the "solely Ice Rod" idea and it scales significantly better (and struggles less with the earlygame.)
Part of the reason I decided on only Ice Rod was because of how its damage can scale. It has absurd attack speed, and with certain items that proc based on a percentage chance on hit, it can do pretty decent damage. But overall, it struggles a lot even then, and Frost Hydra gives it that last bit of damage to push it over the finish line.
As for the Jouster suggestion, I'll probably try that out soon, but overall it sounds pretty fun!
Brew Jul 16, 2024 @ 5:36pm
Speaking of more weapons, I just noticed the mod updates and dropped some more lmao, so gotta try those out. I'll definitely try some of the more suggested ones here later too though, there's some interest looking builds.
Netho Warrior Jul 16, 2024 @ 7:15pm
Jouster with Tabi has to be one of my favorite builds yet, the damage is crazy and it scales VERY well with speed boosts in terms of damage. (Being able to knockback also helps in taking care of a LOT of enemy types, too)
I'll probably cook up some more builds tomorrow, but I've tested the ones I have right now and I'm satisfied with all of them
