Empyrion - Galactic Survival

Reforged Eden 2 Beta
Dr Whom Dec 17, 2024 @ 8:45am
Thank you Devs.
I have just started playing RE2 Beta. I got Empyrion from the epic store weekly giveaway a while back and hit an endgame content wall in vanilla after about 3 weeks of obsessive playing. I'd hit the top and had to stop. Sure I could've continued playing for the sake of it, but there was no point as I'd gotten a CV that could take on anything.

Sorry for rambling. I got RE2 Beta and I'm very impressed by the sheer amount of content you've added, the clear vision you have for a slow-burn PVE experience and, for the first time, I'm having to think seriously about ship design, power and CPU management.

Knowing that I'm still a long way off end-game content for this scenario (even playing as obsessively as I do) has given new life to an otherwise 'completed' game. Great job.

What compelled me to post this was reading the discussion section and realising that you get quite a lot of ... complaints about your mod from people that love aspects of it but dislike others and because of this feel somehow attacked by you.

So I just wanted to remind you guys that there are people out there that appreciate your hard work and dedication and try to brighten your day with some praise and positivity.
Even if you're only doing this for you, there are plenty of people benefiting from your vision and skill. Thank you!

I agree wholeheartedly, Reforged Eden 2 is an incredible scenario to the base game. Great job Ravien and Vermillion!!

I feel like I always have 2 or 3 ship designs rolling about in my mind that I want to try to make. Some do well, some don't, but RE2's design approach to not only ship weaponry but things like shield pen open up new possibilities. One of my recent ships I'm satisfied with is a max CPU SV equipped with 4x heavy vulcan cannons. This thing can fly up to a drone guardian's face, take out the laser sentries with shield pen, and then slowly destroy its exposed shield generator. You guys bring meaning to a game that would otherwise be ignored. I look forward to RE2 updates more than actual game releases. Thank you so much for the hard work you two put into this mod.

Thank you! Seriously thank you so much. It's much appreciated.

I hope people like the new legacy mission I'm working on at the moment. :D

Glad you think so. Looking forward to any new updates - although I'm a long way off needing any right now :)

This is a totally amazing mod, thank you to all those involved in making it such a wonderfully complete and polished experience.

I, too, have great appreciation for both Vermillion and Ravien. RE2 is hella fun, and a vast improvement even over RE1, much less vanilla.

I do have a bone to pick, though! I was this close -- THIS CLOSE! -- to getting my big CV, just had to get a reactor core and a couple more quantum processors...and then recipes changed and now I suddenly also need a lot more gold and platinum and some other stuff, including palladium. I had looted a small amount of the latter, but not nearly enough. And since I don't let myself just buy stuff, now I have to find it all. LOL Curse whichever of you did this to me! Now I have to go find palladium somewhere.

....Nah, I kid. I'm weird in that I like grinding for stuff (Hence the "no buying" rule), to the point that I've often thought that I should join an MP server and just be a person who grinds for stuff, mining and looting and salvaging away, and then just plopping what I gather in a giant warehouse somewhere for people to take as they like. Because I end up with gobs of stuff that I don't have much use for, way too much to practically sell even if I had much use for money in the game. LOL And I honestly thought I was getting this CV a bit too easily, anyway, in that I haven't even left the starter systems yet. (Been doing the UCH survey missions and taking my time clearing all the abandoned POIs and some lower-level Zirax POIS on all the planets. I'm still in Delta.) So we're all good.

Happy holidays to the both of you. :)

Give it a few more hours and the costs might change.

Ooooooh, I will have to see when I play later this evening...

I'm OK if it doesn't, though. As I said, I'm the Grinding Queen! I can indulge my hoarder impulses without actually being a hoarder. :)

Ravien_ff & Vermillion, thank you for the countless hours and commitment to RE2 and all that came before it. I have well over 2,000 hours into the game as a whole but 3/4's of those hours are in the worlds you have created, at most in survival. You even motivated me to upload a few starter ships and a CV or two to the workshop (they are functional, boxes and have been called "Twinkies" by some friends). Either way, I appreciate all you have done and am willing to help out if there is anything I could do to aid you in the further development of this game. I was an I.T. guy back in the stone age, been gaming since space invaders. Yea I'm old, but that kind of experience sees things others may not.

Question for you… Have the two of you ever thought of somehow making this your own rather than being a "mod" for Empyrion? Wouldn't that give you more freedom to do as you please and make it easier for your fan base to just install, use workshop and play? I have no idea of the relationship between you and Eleon Game Studios, but they are 2 very different games. Yours is a thousand plus hours of play to people that come back over and over. Without what you have done I would have been done after 50-60 hours. My friends that would not install RE1 back in the day quit after a few weeks, the ones that installed it have 1,000+ hours as well.

Just a thought, either way, wishing both of you the best and a Merry Christmas!

I would also grab the opportunity to thank both Vermillion and ravien_ff, for your good work you continue with RE2 and sharing this scenario. We have our differences on some aspects of it regarding the rules, but hey it is just a game after all and I am a sneaky and smart enough to adapt those rules to my own liking.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Ravien_ff & Vermillion....you guys have my deep and heartfelt thanks and respect. I have been playing EG on and off for years, and it was only thanks to your RE1 that I kept coming back to it consistently.
It opened the game up in so many ways!

RE2 is definitely more challenging but the amount of detail and effort is really apparent and so I can see it's a labour of love. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

(I also wish to send my thanks to your significant others, whom I'm sure have been frustrated with your copious gaming time and not realised, that your "gaming" is actually development and helping fellow gamers immeasurably!!) :steamhappy:
