Reforged Eden 2 Beta

No more "Everything Ship"?
So.. I just tried Reforged Eden for the first time these past few weeks, and it's great... like seriously amazing, but I really miss some of the epic items from vanilla...

In RE2, NOT having the option to get an epic 'does everything' ship, is sad for me... after spending 100+ hours in a map, I don't want to have to constantly keep flying back to my home planet to store metals I found along the way.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the galaxy map wasn't so difficult to use, but it is.

I don't want to have a ship for space battles and another ship for land battles. I don't want to maintain a fleet of ships for each occasion, forever, at the beginning it's great, it's the most efficient way to play, that feels amazing, but at the end, it just feels like a grind.

Yesterday I ended up turning on cheat mode, and trying to see how much CPU I can add to a ship, just to see if I could build my dream ship, and well.. I just can't have an uber ship like I was hoping to have. Unless I am missing something insane... I don't mind running 1000 alien bases, or whatever is required to get a ultimate ship, but just having something... would give me a goal I could go for.

Some other solutions that would help make this a bit less of an issue. Inter galaxy transfer of items (if I could just teleport my goods to my base, and then teleport produced ammo back, that would be nice, and cut down on the tedium of jumping back and forth)

On vanilla, my 'does everything' ship was 5million cpu... and I want to make redundancies and extras which I bet would have taken it to 10million cpu... all possible because of the epic core I found late into the game (earlier than I expected though)

You can't make an "Everything Ship" but you also don't need a Base.

You can make a Carrier that transport all your Ships with you and also some Modules for Farming, Production, Storage, Repair etc.

And its not that much Grind in the Endgame. Grind is more a Early- und Midgame-Thing. You can mine every Ressource as Asteroid in Seconds. Only Tungsten, Palladium, Magmacite and Platin are hard to get an Asteroid for, but you dont need them that much (just mine it on Planets)
The only Grind left are for Quantum Processors and Drone Swarm Processors. But for the Grind it doesn't matter whether you farm 20 Quantum Cores for one Ship or for five Ships.

@Fairas, How do you get a carrier ship to transport my Battle CV with me? I get carrying all the smaller sips with me, but battleship CV?

CVs can dock to CVs. You just can't have anything docked to the CV you are trying to dock.

Yup a carrier is the way to do it. A massive ship that ships ships. :D

ooooohhhhhhhh. i must have always been trying with docked things to a cv while trying to dock :P
thanks all!

oh holy smokes I didn't know this was a thing... over 800 hours in this game.. and I'm sure I tried it before, lol.

Thank you so much

Yeah this changes everything... It was the whole going and coming back for each ship type that was really bumming me out

Magnecite is a piece of cake mid-game.. you get it from Dronite Asteroids, along with silver, platignum, gold, zascsium (unless the yield of Dronite ore has changed in RE2)

Aside from the Helios carrier(s) (a wide variety of sizes) there are also the newer 'Astra' module carriers, and a whole raft of other carriers which carry ships but not 'modular' ships.
Most carriers are designed to be parked at the Star. You then take the most appropriate ship for what you want to do CV Miner, CV Combat, or Dropship.

I want to mention, Ente's Stellar Endeavour for RE2 has space for 4 Helios type modules. His Warlord has space for 2 Astra type modules. You can possibly adapt the Trinity Modula Host (CV) to RE2 which has space for 6 Modula type modules. Searching for those module types on the workshop will yield a large number of modules.

If your server supports it there is a mod by Astic which adds scripting. In addition to sorting and a number of other features, Astics mod supports Cargo Transfer - the automatic transfering of the contents of a cargo controller or box to another ship. It is a bit finicky, I find I have to wait at the target ship or base for awhile as the transfered contents come in. Still, it solves that problem.

IMO, the player should be able to do a monster all-in-one ship if thats what they want to do and it doesn't exceed the server restrictions.

Make sure you read up on turbines, quite easy to have negative power cv's these days if you go the modular route. Thanks for that add Ravien!

I like to play with full 'ship building' myself, making insane ships super hard to build, due to the distance some pieces are from the ground, drones don't cut it sometimes.

So I'm going to make a carrier, all the ship types, then ferry them around to see if I can make something close enough to a jack of all trades ship.

My carrier ship will be 100% focused on movement only... And I hope having smaller gun ships parked on it, will mean they can handle the defense if they need any defense

I think turbines are nice to save power, but they eat up cpu in exchange for that power saving, so I end up wanting the cpu for other things. :( sad because I love their art / effects / sounds they make.

Look at all the RE Carriers they all have maxed out Solar for a reason. For a Carrier in RE2 you are going to want to max out your turbines for exactly that reason. You want it sitting at the sun not consuming any power. Your dedicated combat ship will chew through fuel like there's no tomorrow, so you need the fuel to go where its most needed, which is not the carrier.

My carrier ship is inspired by descriptions of Star Carriers in The Expeditionary Force. Its as long as the game will allow me to make it, and has minimal turrets for defense since its not supposed to be a combat ship. No constructors, not a lot of on board storage, modest shields... A lot of thrusters and an advanced jump drive. It carries 8 cargo pods each with 3.2 million storage.

I don't even know how you can use a solar panel on a capital ship o.O Is this a late game thing?
