Feedback: Pentaxid could use an increase or efficiency adjustment.
In RE2, I find I need far more Pentaxid than in RE1 due to the fact battles take much longer and your shield is working overtime. Another Pentaxid eater is travel. Travel around the universe without something like an AM drive eats up stacks of Pentaxid. Weapons using Elem Pent are also eating up my stores.

I am constantly trying to have enough Pentaxid to have a balanced Mining time to Battle time ratio.

I need to mine Pentaxid constantly. Rich mining certainly helped, but leaving distant batlefields to return to Zirax Space is also painful.

I have not built out my Pentaxid farm like I had in RE1. I felt the cost early game was hard to raise, and once I obtained Rich mining, I thought I could be OK. The problem with an Orbital Farm is that you have to get back to it frequently. Once I am roaming the universe, getting home takes time and pent.

In RE1, I had a 32 Hydro farm on my carrier, but I have been struggling with Carrier energy consumption/cpu (cpu is needed for Turbines) and did not feel adding a Pent Farm was viable yet. I will experiment with this, but I don't think the output can be significant.

This is just my feedback for developers after working through to the end-game content. I feel either increasing Pentaxid output or making shields and warp more efficient might make the play experience less grindy regarding Pentxid mining.

This is a minor issue and I give it just as feedback.

Thank you Developers Vermillion and Ravien. You guys are amazing and I personally greatly appreciate your efforts.

Where are you looking for pentaxid? There are some places that are better than others but they take some exploring to find them.

I would say all over the Galaxy. I like finding the Anomalies, I get a good deal from the Protonium rich mining, And of course most every system has a sector or more with Pentaxid. The real issue is how much I burn. If for example I have been working on Drones. To fully complete an Asteroid sector in maybe 45 minutes, I will probably (I need to get you exact figures) use 6-8k in stacks and the drop rate does not help to replenish much. As I mentioned, the Travel, Ammunition, and Shielding seems to eat it up very quickly. I probably need to gather some statistics for you to better represent. So far, this is just a feeling that I have to spend an disproportionate amount of time mining to fighting/exploring. Let me see if I can get better data...

I am nowhere near to your level of adventuring. However, if I may. You can grow your pentaxid if you use modules. I.e. Helios modules. Then you build cheap station like X-change (will need to update it for RE2), park your modules there. When you need to move to different region, you build another X-change there and move modules with a carrier like helios.

Also, it makes more sense in your case IMHO to buy ammunition, assuming you have more money than pentaxid. My 2 cents.

Im going to try an experiment. i gathered 22k Pent, and I am going to track where I spend it and how long it lasts. The difficulty with the farm is travel. I am all over the universe, and spend a day or 2. I think the Dronelands may have been the worst for Pent consumption. It was constant prolonged battles where all the ships in the sector come together when you start hitting a POI. The drain to the shields I think is unusual. I am off to Legacy now and will see how long this pent lasts to get an idea of a Burn Rate.

@Aargh, I will see if I can work in a Module plan. I do use a Hyperion Carrier, but its not module based. That being said, a Module is just a striped down CV box. I can carry one of those around. I think by separating the CPU and Energy off the main carrier, I can come out ahead with a Pent Module farm. The Orbital solar is the best, maybe I can work on a hybrid solution that transfers Hydroponic bays when I move around. I am setting up various mini bases for repairs in each Territory, I can maybe combine the two efforts. TY for your input and ideas.

If you're on a server and have other people in your faction - each person can set an autominer on a pentaxid deposit. As long as they have the miners set to allow faction access you can fuel / collect from all of them. If this is done on a moon with multiple pentaxid deposits with multiple people you can get ridiculous amounts of pentaxid.

I am setup currently on a black desert planet and found a spot where I have 7 very small and 1 small Pentaxid resource nodes all surrounding my base in extremely close proximity. Dont know if this is normal for Black Deserts or if my seed number is just awesome like that.

Yes black desert planets have a lot of pentaxid deposits in groups like that/

I have been paying attention and tracking my Pent burn. What I see is that I use a lot of Pent on Laser Ammo. I run a Batte CV, and a Miner/Fighter CV. Between these 2 ships, I am running a total of 5 Light and 6 Medium laser turrets. Here are some details:

Pent Burn Rate
*Gathered 22,870 Pentaxid 7/10 5PM (How long does this last?)
-Fill Tanks up 3 CV Ships (1,800)
-Restocked Laser Ammo on 2 Ships (350 and 450 Lasers-About 3200 units total)
*7/10 10 PM I have about 8,500 Pent left including what is in Full Pent tanks. I think I see the Laser Ammo is very costly in Pent. Usually, I have been crafting as I go and did not track the cost.
450 MW costs 5 Pent per
350 MW costs 3.75 Pent

800-1000 Laser Ammunition may last an hour or so while battling. (I will have to time check this)

So to restock my 2 ships adding about 800 350MW and 450MW cost about 14,000 Pent.

This is just input. But I do feel I am burning too much Pent on ammunition.

Another thought is I should probably turn off lasers after the shields drop. This would save a good deal of Ammo, but I would also lose some DPS also I think.

Do you have the spare power generation/CPU to run some modulated lasers? IIRC, they only require gird energy to fire, (like Space Engineers DEWs or Eve's laser turrets). They should help save on Pent if you can afford them.
GeodeTheRock Jul 12, 2024 @ 12:14pm
Yea, I was thinking some medium modulated lasers might be a good idea. TY for the input, its a good idea and one I am working on today. I have found when moving to the Legacy Battles I dont need as many shield weapons. Its now Blocks. These things are all Combat Steel. So I removed some lasers and I am refocusing. And Modulated is on my test list.

Just a thought but maybe instead of a one-for-one production on the Pentax and the Promethium fuel cells, you could do a 3 for 2 production. That would make up for the increase in usage.
