Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

The Old Realms - Core (Season of Doom)
Battle crashes (might be vampire related)
I am experiencing an insane amount of crashing, this is more frequent during sieges, but can also happen during combat with random raiders. The further in game I am, the more often those crashes happen which suggest they're related to something that comes into play later in game.

<technical speculations>
It is a typical Bannerlord crash where the game offers to collect data and send it to the developers, which I tried using to peek at the data myself.
There was a massive crashdump file (~ 1.8GB) and a number of not particularly useful logs, however the one notable exception was a mention of well... an exception code pointing to memory access violation (0xc0000005). I'm definitely not low on RAM (used 16GB out of 128)
</technical speculations>

The only thing that comes to mind is the magic - early game I can cast basic magic bolt and have no companions, later on, when I have a few vampire companions plus my char unlocks some new spells, the crashing intensifies. Thus I suspect that something is wrong with the spells themselves - could it be related to light effects that trigger the issue, or perhaps a particle effect?

Could always try installing better exception window and see what that crash log says

is it a mod or should I do something special? I'm more than happy to install it if it can help detecting the root cause of crashes!

Its a separate mod yeah, can be downloaded from nexus or workshop

I installed it, but now the game just crashes to desktop and that's that. I did check the log files and found something potentially useful though:

1. This appears dozens of times in one line (some kind of circular reference or a recursive issue?)
This does not improve performance since partial decompression is not supported[21:44:30.333] Granite Warning: W1005: Performance warning: A tile needs to be uploaded to a MipmapStreamingTexture with more than 256 redirects.
2. Right after, there's this gem:

Vanilla logs are pretty useless, if there's no BEW report its very hard to track down.

I had a vampire siege battle myself with over 2K units and 8 caster lords, no issues on my end although my pc is pretty high end

Till now I only once crashed during a battle/siege, and there was not much magic involved. I have more crashes in very random situations, during post-battle screens when looking at loot, or in the perk window for example. So maybe the usual suspects are not always to blame.

Although the crashes are few, the tip with BEW is a good one, I will install. Are you generally interested in such crash data or would it be an useless overload of information, given the diversity of systems and reasons?

the weakest point in my setup is the dated GPU (a GTX 1080) - I tried installing the better exception window, but it appears to need mod menu for real use, but after installing the mod config AND it's requirements, I still can't see the mod config at all, what's the order of loading for them to work?

BEW is a standalone mod, i dont use anything else for it to work

Better Exception Window only needs Harmony as requirement which you have to use with TOR anyway.
R4MPZY  [developer] Apr 17 @ 1:31am
That is true, you do need harmony.

small update:
d3d_device_context_->Map at rglGPU_device::lock_texture Failed! The GPU device instance has been susspended. Usew GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine the appropriate action.
Sounds like the GPU bailed on me suddenly?

Have you tried the d3d sticky post before ?

yes, I have the terrain set to high, the only "medium" I have are particle related settings

EDIT: Unless I misunderstood and the settings should be medium or lower?

no, medium or higher so thats fine
Definitely feels vampire related, haven't crashed with any other faction in 400v400 for like 30 minutes. Crashing somewhat regularly when playing my necrarch, always seems around when I cast spells, even in like 200v200. Wonder if it's skeleton or wraith related? Definitely isn't an obvious reason, other than only when I play vamps.

I also am not crashing nonstop, just enough to make me save after every battle and every couple of minutes when playing vamps. Still an awesome mod.
